Anyone install cup holders?
« on: September 30, 2010, 03:01:35 pm »
I am considering some cup holders.  I want something that attaches to the side of an existing cabinet and can hold pint glasses and/or beer mugs (16-20 ounceI think).

Has anyone done this?

Oh, my reason is that there is no table near my cab to store such beverages while playing.

Then might I suggest buying a "bar table" to put next to the cabinet?  While cup holders would take care of the cups, they won't address where to put the food.  I also prefer to keep spills away from my cabinet.

I'd like to see some unique cupholder ideas.

This one's pretty slick if the side of your machine isn't blocked: http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=100550.0

I keep a black, non-cushioned barstool next to my driving cab with a  coaster on it.
I wanted to incorporate a cupholder, but couldn't find any I liked.

My other machines are on top the bars, no need for cupholders there.

Honestly, I don't want people eating while they are playing my games.

I use two of these on my upright. They pretty much disappear against the black sides when not in use and folded up.

From it's appearance, I'm not sure I'd trust it with a full pint glass.

Have you used them with full pint glasses?  ;D

Yup, and some big ass Octoberfest type mugs as well. Those "claws" open up really wide.  They are quite sturdy. Been on there near 4-5 years now and through many parties and Superbowls :)

They are actually sold for marine purposes as well, fwiw, which is a tough enviro.

We have ledges by the arcade cabinet to put glasses and food down. It's handy. But I'll usually just put my cocktail glass down on the CP itself; as long as the motion isn't too vigorous, the martini stays in the glass.

i put some of those flip down cup holders on my cabinet, but i hardly ever use them.  looking back, i wish i wouldnt have installed them, they look crappy on the side of my cabinet.  i will eventually remove them and fill in the holes and repaint the cabinet.

I tried a few cup holder designs but decided they looked too ugly.  I ended up going with this:

Between the control panel and the screen bezel there's a flat spot about 9cm deep (3.5").  I lay down a couple of coasters there during parties.

I installed these: http://www.happcontrols.com/accessories/27142200.htm

They are awesome.  Very tough/durable.  They hold pint glasses, cans, hell they have a slot for the handle on a beer mug!!

i have these on the side:

http://autosfans.com/type-s-dh-10081-6-vent-drink-holder-silver-price-features-specs-customer-reviews/

I placed an rgb led controlled by a LEDWiz so drinks light up.
They will hold beer but are too small for whiskey glasses.

Only had 1 spill in 5 years and 20-ish parties.
Nothing ruined but the CP had to come appart.

Yeha Im rocking those too. They are very sturdy, and like gryhnd said, they are very sturdy, and the little claw mechs open up pretty wide. I have pint glasses in there all the time. Get some good wood screws and bam. Youre in business. I was leary about it though cause they were cheap, but I love em. Better than the ones in my car, thats for sure.  :lol
Pictures are overrated anyway.

I have a pair of old speaker cases that I use as "hidden" (as in - they don't look out of place) tables in the game room. Works like a charm. I wouldn't want to damage the sidepanels with holsters or holders...

but I guess it depends on the cab look and all.

I like the classic look of the cab, so no holders for me.  I do wish sometimes I had them though for convenience.    :)

i always wanted cup holders but decided not to in order to keep the cab looking clean. I reckon it would be awesome if you could somehow fit something like the flip down ones that you find in Saabs

Have you guys seen this?  You can probably mod a cabinet to incorporate one.  It's meant to fit into a drive bay.

Looks a lot stronger and more durable than the cd-rom/dvd drive...   ;D
