Steve Wiebe takes back the Donkey Kong record!

"The Donkey Kong high score record has been shattered three times this year with Steve Wiebe recapturing the title from his King of Kong rival Billy Mitchell.

Hank Chien took the title from Billy Mitchell this past March. Chien beat Mitchell's 3 year record.

Mitchell reclaimed his title in July with a score of 1,062,800. This month, Steve Wiebe beat Mitchell's score by hitting 1,064,500.

According to Twin Galaxies, Wiebe set the top Donkey Kong score record in spring 2007. His efforts were documented in the film The King of Kong."

Wiebe seems to much of an introvert for my liking. Quiet, reserved.
I could see Mitchell being hilarious to talk to, the guy has tons of personality and would probably be full of interesting stories. He's probably a hoot at parties!

I feel the same way.  It's like they are just going a little above what was done before to keep it interesting.  I wonder though, if they get like 1/2 way through and do the math in their heads and see if they have a chance or not.  I imagine that would be incredibly frustrating.

It's too bad, I'd love to see them do another film, but this time reversing the protagonist/antagonist roles of those two. Wiebe as the "bad guy" would be awesome!

That's a common misconception because of the movie.

I have not met the guy in person myself, but I have been told by those who have that he's actually a really nice guy.  In the movie he just played the persona of a ---meecrob---.
I'm sure Weibe can pull of the same thing, it's all just a big act to give the movie a point.

Adventureland in Altoona has a nice Popeye.  I played a few games this summer.

Not saying he's an outright ass, but as that article says: Stories have a hero and a villain, and Billy just happens to match the latter perfectly.

So randomly I decided to watch the king of kong again with my room mate.  He didnt think he would enjoy it but he did.  After the movie we went online to check the new high score since I know its changed hands a few times, only to see that Steve beat is on top again( ) and it happened only 2 days ago!  We got a pretty good kick outta that.

wiebe got his board from and teamed up with his friend mr awesome to take down bill mitchell and twin galaxies, he admitted it during the movie.  wiebe neglected his children so he could compete on a video game score.  people say billy is a jerk for not dropping his family and life or dragging them halfway across the country to play a video game.  it seems to me that billy mitchell has his priorities more straight than wiebe, and his choice of friends in brian kuh is far less distasteful than wiebe and his buddy mr awesome...  billys gonna beat him soon, wait and see.

I've never met him so I have to take your word for it. If he's playing to the character, then that would fall under being a "perceived" jackass. Either way, these two guys are good for Donkey Kong because they seem to be so polarizing.
