Viewsonic VA2216w LCD - power cycling issue?
«

The above monitor has developed a very annoying issue!
When I turn the monitor:
power light on
displays the image for about 1/2 a second
power light turns off
display turns off
waits about 3 seconds then repeats
Any ideas what might be the cause of this?
I haven't opened it up yet, as I am waiting for a response from Viewsonic - it might be under warranty, depends if they are sticklers for the original receipt - which I cant find ;(
cheers

most likely caps in the smps.
usually 470uF/25v. replace even if check ok and use 105 degree
some use 220uf . won't hurt to increase value.

Thanks!
That doesn't mean a whole lot to me unfortunately, as soon as I get a response from viewsonic regarding the warranty (don't think it will go my way) I will post back with some pics of the innards
Im tempted to do it now, but I will wait on and see what they say

i'd replace c501 and the one next to it ( use 35v/105 degree) and check/replace the 1000/25 - again 35v/105 degree
i'd up the 470/10 and 1000/10 to 16v/105 degree ratings.
mfg's tend to under rate caps i.e. 6.3v caps on a 5v line
while its open, it wouldn't hurt to check the 3 caps on the primary side
wouldn't mind seeing a nice foil side pic of the pcb

Im really not sure how to test caps, discharge them etc... Although replacing them looks relatively easy on a board like this.
I have some reading to do!

tnx, jus' wanted to do a visual inpection for defects. not as good as in hand , but still looks ok .
don't worry about discharging . nothing of concern , it all bleeds off in a short time .
change the secondary caps an' it "should" be fine...
