Glass - laminated vs tempered and other questions
« on: September 14, 2010, 02:22:06 pm »
Gearing up to order a piece of glass, but have a few questions:

What is the most common thickness to use - is there benefit to thicker/thinner besides cost?
Does thickness affect light transmission specs? I'm assuming they compensate for this - a 1/8 vs 1/4 31% are going to be identical in terms of darkness-
Does using clear glass with tinting rather than smoked glass have benefits or drawbacks?

Wrestling with local providers who have no specs on light transmission, have been pushing me towards laminate.

Thanks in advance - Joe

I used greylite because that way you know exactly what the light transmission is. I used Greylite 31, not sure if it's 1/8 or 1/4, I'll check. Works perfectly for me and comes polished and tempered from what I remember.

Thanks, I see greylite is a brand, trying to find a local dealer.

Anyone using laminate?
