Nintendo Arcade game swapping question
« on: September 13, 2010, 09:22:32 pm »
I am picking up a Nintendo VS. Top Gun game tomorrow and was wondering if it is possible to swap board sets from a Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong Jr or Popeye directly into the VS cab? I know the monitor is horizontal in the Top Gun game, but that aside I was just wondering what the options are for a different game. Thanks for the help.

Not a straight swap. The pinouts are different in significant ways.

Here's the pinouts, via mikesarcade.com:
Nintendo VS cab:

Donkey Kong Jr. (Nintendo Classic)

The VS cab has a two edge connectors. One of them is a 44 pin, like the Donkey Kong one, but after pin 5 and pin E, they're completely different.
You'd definitely have to do some rewiring of the edge connector for pretty much anything you put in there that's not a Nintendo VS.
