u360 restriction too restricting?
« on: September 06, 2010, 01:37:56 am »
I am highly confused right now.  I just put the restrictor on my u360 and it restricts movement to about 1/2".  I don't see what I could have done wrong.  But with that much restriction, how does analog mode do anything?

I don't think the restrictor is meant for analog mode. All it does is limit the physical movement of the stick which I guess makes it act like other sticks.

Personally for my setup (which is not very game specific) I don't use the restrictor but I do use the stiffer springs and a custom 8-way map to allow for easier fighter movements (aka street fighter or mk series type games).

I was figuring osmething like that.  I was still shocked that it was that restrictive though.  I wish they made different plates.

Well, no restrictors for me then.  As for the stiffer springs.  I put them on and tried it out and did not like them.  I can see the stiffer springs when using the restrictor plates though as that would allow for better centering.

I hope to play alot of fighting games.  Care to share the map you came up with.  Maybe take a screenshot of the setup and attach it as a post :-)

Regarding Mala (if using Mala), how do you make a custom config for just one game or genre (fighting) and have it over-ride the Mala plugin (forget it's name)?

Yeah, the restrictor plate pretty much makes the stick useless for analog. I would agree there should be a middle restrictor that is somewhere between the current restrictors and an unrestricted stick. Otherwise you're choosing between great analog control or OK digital(like) control. Ultimately I ended up skipping the restrictor and just installing a Happ Comp for when I want digital control.

I'm starting to understand how people end up with multiple mame cabinets.  The next one would be much smaller.  Probably a bar top if I ever get a free PC again.

i havent tried the restrictors, but was thinking about purchasing the round ones here before too long.  i am using JLWs as my player 3 and 4 sticks (with square restrictors), and when switching between them and my u360s, the throw distance is dramatically different.  i was thinking about getting round ones for all 4 sticks, but perhaps i wont now.

i also edited my 8way map, basically i increased the center dead zone by one small unit the entire way around, it made a huge difference in the performance for fighters
