Ambient Arcade Sounds
« on: September 04, 2010, 08:22:43 pm »
I had found some online a while ago, but due to a hard drive failure I lost them. Anyone know where to find them?

My second question is, Do you play ambient arcade music (to simulate being in an arcade) while you are playing games?

I have seen videos of people's setups with it playing in the background.

Also, if you are playing it, are you playing it on the same PC or are you playing it on something different?

Thanks for the thoughts

and I dont use the ambient sounds, id rather have music playing.  Its really neat for about 20 minutes then it gets to where I cant bare it any longer and I want to slam my stool through the machine just to get it to stop making that noise!!

And I didn't see the other question.  I think almost everyone plays it on the same PC.

How do you run it concurrently with the game sound f/x?

Rub it in - Trust me - if I had the space I would have the games... Limited to one, and that's MAME...

i use mala as a front end and it allows you to play a song in the background. i imagine most other frontends would do that too. its pretty sweet.

i usualy play the ambient sounds or play a rockin 80's sound track.

Is there an easy way to launch a media player via a batch file?

Ok, that was easy (and I feel dumb)...

However, is there a way to run a batch file to stop the music?

Then I could have 4 batch files to start each mp3, and a fifth to stop the background music.

You could run a batch file to kill the process that mplayer is using I guess like the 'kill' command
maybe theres some media player with CLI

EDIT - yeah theres a winamp plugin that gives you command line control called CLAMP

You can always add a 2nd sound card and play the audio in external speakers away from your mame cabinet. That's what I did before I started collecting arcade games. It gives a much better immersive effect IMO. See my sig for software specifically designed to do that (can also be used to play the sounds on your primary sound card if your front end doesn't do it).
My Collection: Mame cab, 38 dedicated vids, pin, skeeball, coin op air hockey table, Ice Cold Beer, Megatouch, 2 token machines, and payphone (VAPS, pics at Arcade Crusade)

Add Ambience to your mame cab setup

I'd planned on trying your software back when you first released it, but never got around to it. Now my cabinet is in the living room and there's no way I could it.
