Junkyard jukebox - my first juke build
« on: August 29, 2010, 09:07:52 pm »
Hello!

After thinking about what to do with an old computer that i have, i took a look in the internet and found this forum with all these amazing projects of arcades, jukeboxes and stuff. So i decide to build up a jukebox, cause:
-I would really enjoy an arcade cabinet, but i don't have any space for that in my apartment.
-My mother birthday is comming up, and a jukexox will be a really good gift.
-I would need some help, and my brother will not spend his time on something just for me.
-I have all parts that a jukebox need laying around.

So we started!

The Computer. 40Gb HD is small for arcade games, but enough for music.

The amplifier. 50w RMS, more than i need.

The naked CRT monitor.

This is a hacked keyborard, for buttons interface.

The cabinet. I really want do some vintage style, but our marcenary skills is limited, so we try to make things as simple as possible.

Painting the front grills.

Grills done.

Instead of paint, we decided to do a collage work, with old pictures and stickers.

The top.

Collage ready, just waiting for the the veneer.

The Speakers. Do not be fooled by the size, these babies play LOUD!

For the front-end, after do some research, i choose the DWJukebox. It's a great program, easy to configure, and do all that is needed for this project.

The main screen. Really, grafic design is not my best skill.

Putting all together.

All wired up for testing. Later, we reorganized everything right, but sadly we forgot to take pictures before closing.

The relay is a simple but smart idea of my friend Leonardo, that also provides me a lots of technical support. He's a nerd... Thanks, buddy!

And the jukebox is done! I put some blue leds behind the front grills, the effect is cool in dark ambients.

The people enjoying.

I really want to thank to my brother Andrei, for all the away time that he spent on this project.

Hope you all like, any questions, we're here. And sorry for my english, i'm from Brazil.

Cheers - Aisser Raulino.

egosbar, thanks for the comment!
That skin is designed by me. There are some skins for download, but none of then are exactly what i'm looking for. The DWJukebox are full skinable, for singles based juke or album based, like mine. You can do real amazing skins, but sometimes is a litle tricky to do what you want.
The biggest problem i found when i make that skin is the place for the cover album art, the skin make some table with the songs list and the cover, and if you want a big song list like mine, the cover goes proportional, like this:

The way i found to go over this is creating a cover image with a crop of the bakground, and paste the real album art over there, for each album.

Its easy to do, but take some time. I don't know if i miss something on the program, perhaps there a way a lot easier to do this...
I forgot to say thanks to Chris, for this amazing software. http://dwjukebox.com/

looks great , i havent done much on mine for a few weeks been too busy and waiting on some parts , a griffin powermate volume knob will allow me to program n for next song press in turn right and c for clear list instead of adding more buttons , and its a volume knob just a shame they havent got the tail coming out of the bottom and have it mountable , ill cross that road when i get it ill come up with something lol , still need to order the led harness to light my buttons , i think ill do that tomorrow
hopefully this week ill get the top built that will house the marquee sign

congrats on your build mate , nothing like learning new skills , never done much with electronics but having fun figuring it out and thanks to a sparkie friend and a lot of looking around this site ive learned heaps and should be able to finish up without too much trouble

again nice work
