What micrswitch with the Happ pushbuttons?
« on: August 26, 2010, 07:57:54 pm »
I was about to order when I realized that there are options.  For the price I am probably not upgrading but is an upgrade worth it?

The Happ options are as follows:
Standard Soft Touch™ ($1.20)
Premium Groovy-Micro™ Soft-Touch (+$1.50)
Versa-Micro™ User Adjustable Switch (+$1.75)
Micro-Leaf™ (+$2.35)

Even one step up is $2.70 per button.

So, thoughts?  Are the standard buttons too loud?

Will clicky noises eventually drive me mad?  My only real concern is noise.  Not feel or behavior.

EDIT: Also, I do not want anything user adjustable.  So the Versa-Micro User Adjustable Switches are out.

$2.35 (Micro-Leaf™) is a big step up given the quantity that I want.  $1.50 extra (Premium Groovy-Micro™ Soft-Touch) is not exactly chump change either but if it is a big improvement, I'll do it.

EDIT 2: HAPP controls is now shipping E-Switch microswitches with all of their products which previously used the standard Cherry™ switch. Both are decent products, but we thought our customers deserved something quieter and with a much nicer feel.

  • Yeah, owning a MAME cab only leads to owning real ones. MAME just isn't good enough. It's a gateway drug.

I think you'll be just fine with the E-switch. Once they are installed in your control panel, you won't hear them through the panel and the sound of the game.

I've always wanted to try that micro-switch.  Definitely for my next cab.  How big of a rush are you in?  You could order one of each and then decide when they arrive.  The way I look at it is that you might as well do everything right when you build the cab and not worry about the cost.  I mean what's an extra $50 over the life of the cab for something that you will be happy with?  Yeah, it's probably why these things are a money pit for me...   ;D

Randy swaps out the E-Switch for a different switch on the Happ buttons.

HAPP controls is now shipping E-Switch microswitches with all of their products which previously used the standard Cherry™ switch. Both are decent products, but we thought our customers deserved something quieter and with a much nicer feel. So we contracted one of the world's largest switch producers to build us some pushbutton switches with characteristics that better reflect the needs of our customers. We are pleased to be able to offer these to you at virtually the same price as others who are still offering the noisier and heavier force stock switches.

I have the "standard" switch from GGG on my Happ buttons and they are fine.

Fine, then whatever the standard switch is....

Point is, once it's in the panel, the standard switch should be fine.

I ordered the standard switch.  If I don't like it later, I will order samples and upgrade.

Also, I have my side panels cut!  The project is officially underway.  The bad news.  Ultrimark is out of iPacs.  Bot the 2 and 4 player model.  So I ahve to hold off ordering hte u360 and iPac  :(
