Help with the ultimate button layout!
« on: August 26, 2010, 03:58:47 pm »
Can one of you photoshop geniuses please do me a favor?  Can you take the button layout below and put a border around it?  I'd like to see what both of my awesome mock-ups look like.  I want something to surround the button and joysticks on my CP so I'm planning to cut out some vinyl but I need something to trace/layout on the vinyl before attempting to cut it out.  The goal is to do what is done HERE but my button layout is a bit different.  And yes, the second design looks like a wang.

Huge thanks to anyone who can hook me up!

EDIT: Oh yeah, I want to be able to print the layout in actual size!  Also, some guide lines would help (like the button centers, etc.)...

Not 100% sure what you want but something like this?

The half circles aren't very rounded here but if you elaborate a bit I can do what you want pretty easily if I'm on the right track.

Yes!  That is exactly what I'm talking about (with more rounded ends - the center point of the joystick should be the center point for the 1/2 circle on the left and then just try and make it look proportionate on the other end I guess).  I want to print it out, tape it to the vinyl and then cut it out with a razor (for the straight parts) and scissors for the curves.

THANKS!!

How are these...

As for printing that will depend on your graphics app...I just modified the original file you provided.

Those look great!  So how do I print them out?  The file I posted prints to scale - can you attach your modified files to a post here?

How hard do you think it will be to cut these shapes out of vinyl?  I think I can already tell I'm going to go with the bottom one...

I hope you do.  The one above looks a little bit cockeyed.

I used http://www.getpaint.net/ to modify the images.

Here is the pdn file: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/208302/ubl-rounded.pdn
And here is the png file version: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/208302/ubl-rounded.png
I figure both verisons lets you do more if there's something in the png version you did not like.  ;D

Edit: In theory the changed versions should print the same as your original...if they don't let me know and I'll figure out why.

Thanks a ton - I'll let you know how it goes.  Cutting out the rounded sections is going to be tough...

You're just cutting out in Vinyl right?  Find a can or plate thats the correct size and use that to cut around...don't free hand it. :)

I was thinking the same thing. Place something round (of the appropriate size) on it and take an exacto knife around it.

Good idea guys.  I wish I had one of those vinyl cutters!
