Don't care for the cabinet.... But damn, the video is pretty freaking cool.  Love the Pong!

Cool video!  Unfortunately, it looks like Ikea took the lead in designing the actual cabinet.

Yeah, it's a little cheap looking, I think. The video was pretty cool. Did you look through the site? They have one with a projector behind the marquee. I thought that was a pretty cool idea.

Not sure why the projector is behind the marquee.   There is not enough distance to project an image on the front glass.  Maybe it projects out on the wall behind the player but it would only be good for TV or Movies.

Could always have it further down in the cabinet and reflecting off a mirror.

Because when you want to watch a movie, you project it onto a wall or screen  ::)

As for design: remember you're looking at a European site (that's not Canadian french!) so the "Ikea" thing looks fine to me in that context. This wasn't made for US sensibilities, but clearly made by an "artist" to serve multiple purposes in a minimum footprint: gaming, tunes and HT.

Talking about projecting as a marquee.

I'm not seeing where the projector has anything to do with displaying a marquee. It's just for movies afai can tell.

From the site:

"Il lui permet aussi bien d'écouter de la musique (musique en ligne, CD, station iPod), que de travailler, que de visionner des films, tout en créant un véritable pôle de convivialité où chacun peut partager ses contenus."

The rough translation (my french is rusty) is that it's a multimedia system: music, work, watching films...

This is also born out by the reviews on the site, which state this is a multipurpose unit: "bring(ing) together in one TV cabinet, computer , hi-fi iPhone station, turntable, projector."

The wouldn't call out the projector if all it did was display marquees  :D

Etc etc.

I get that Europeans have a bit different style than many American's do.  I'm just saying that the hollow core cardboard furniture style is similar to the look of this cabinet.  I personally consider that bad.  If Europeans consider that good, then these guys have possibly designed a juggernaut!

P.S. - unless the whole discussion about the projector is just a "what if" and "how to" exercise...

Yes, that's exactly what it was. I never read anything on that site, just watched the video. The talk turned to "how to project on a marquee" and I was chiming in on that.

I was thinking that you could build a cab with a projector in it. Place it on one end of the room, pop open the marquee, and have it play a movie on the other wall. I would be a cool way to hide the projector.
