Grrr MA Keycode lost - [solved]
« on: August 21, 2010, 04:33:50 pm »
I've owned MA for years.... Even got the "new" key codes MA created a couple years back... all working fine... then of course, my HDD died!   And I can't find my new keycode, as I've moved since then, etc.. you guys know how it is...

Delusional?  Anyway you know how to get MA keycode again?  I do have MA/my keycode running on my brothers PC, but not sure if I can get keycode off his??

Thanks for help... As I'm sure mameseer isn't around to resend to me.. and if I remember, my account on the forums is where he sent it...so that's down and a no go now..

Is it ok to run MA on multiple PC's with the same licence?

The best thing to do would be to try to e-mail him.  mameseer@maximus.com

Good luck getting an answer though, since not even I receive an answer.

As far as the license goes, yes that is legal according to the license.txt:

"1. Personal License...  This License allows use of the Software and documentation only by the number of Users licensed. "User(s)" means Licensee, if Licensee is an individual purchasing the Software for use at office or home (in which case Licensee's immediate family members residing in the same household shall not be considered additional Users).

Yea I sent an Email to Mameseer... nothing yet back...

I sure hope he can help me get it back... I'm still going to try to look at the registry on my brothers cabinet and see if I can capture the keycode for MA.

If not, ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- I may need to get a hacked copy... dont want to, but if he wont respond, im out $25 and a great front end.

I see both sides in this.

You have purchased the software (which is probably more than most do) and by the word of the license, you are permitted to have it installed on multiple systems in the same household.  However, you're holding Mameseer responsible by his lack of responding, for your loss of the HDD and code.  It's really not a 'support' issue that you lost your code, but it would be very nice to receive some response when things like this happen.  (BTW, after years of experience having the exact same thing happen for most of my software, I have everything written down on a master list.)

If it's great, why not purchase another copy instead?  You'll help to support the program itself, and probably feel a lot better about it as well.

I don't agree with that, I think its reasonable to expect a person that is still trading and accepting cash for a digital download to provide registration details upon request.

Not offering official forum support is one thing, but this is another step.

I agree with you 100%.  I'm just offering a different point of view to solve the issue without resorting to piracy.

Is it REALLY piracy if he's already paid for it? I mean at it's core, what he's looking for is essentially just a few dozen byte string. If the end result is the same if it's one string versus another, does it matter?

I suppose this is more a philosophical question than a practical one.

Could it be likened to buying a music cd, losing it, then downloading the same album?

Yes.

In the grand scheme of things, does anything really matter?

I suppose this is more a philosophical question than a practical one.

As per my last comment, I agree with your comment.

 ;D

Yes, absolutely.  Again, piracy.

The difference is that electronic media can be copied, with no detriment to the source material.  (By copying that CD, movie, or program, you're not physically damaging the source in any way, are you?)  Thus, the only damage being done is really to the developers, manufacturers, distributors, etc. etc. because they do not make any money on these duplicates.  Horribly damaging on a mass scale, for example, when someone uploads a movie before it hits theatres, and causes people who would have paid to see it to watch it for free and decide it's not worth the money to support.

Is it morally wrong to copy the program you purchased, especially since you've exhausted every avenue to try and get the replacement code?  I would say no.  Is it legally wrong?  Sadly, the Law says yes.

I'm not really sure the law would say yes, I would love to be in the courtroom hearing the case!

So you bought it, yes, here is my receipt...
And you are using it within the agreed terms?, yes
etc...
hahaha

I think this situation is more of a grey area, compared to downloading roms which you really shouldn't be doing if you don't presently own the source material.

And lets face it, this is a massive part of what the entire community is based around.

I'm sure the law would say yes.  At least, in my part of the world they would.

Umm, yeah...  /me looks around shiftily...

LOL

Thanks guys for all the feedback... It really struck a chord, no>?

Anyhow, why would I send another $25 to MameSeer, if he never responds with a new keycode?  Hell, he ain't responding to anyone at all for anything.  So, the way I look at it, if I don't get a response say, in a week, I'm looking to get a hacked copy going.  I really love MA, always have... and I did pay for it back in 2005 or so..  But, since I moved a couple times, and things can get "lost", plus my HDD actually clicking/failing, I'm screwed.  I had a great setup too!   :hissy:

I'm still looking around my old Emails and paperwork, so if I can find it, I will obviously use my own and NOT get a hacked copy of MA.  I did, in fact find my original keycode, before MameSeer changed them to the new style.  I sent this to his Email already.  No response at all.

Peace

You know what, I was thinking... If I registered my brothers PC with Maximus, could't I just copy over the MA folder to another PC and use it?  Wouldn't it be registered already and work?  As I see it, MA doesnt really "install" itself as a program, so I think there is no registry info, etc.

I may try this and see if it works.  If so, hell I may be back in business.

Anyone else tried this or thinks it may fail?

Ive copied my MA over to multiple PCs to try various things, and the keycode stays with it. Theres no install as you said, you just need the files.
Since you paid for it already anyway, and the above doesnt work for you for some reason, just pirate it. 95% of the users on this board pirate bios and roms daily.

Yea I was chuckling at this - members saying "don't pirate" as they configure their front ends that access pirated roms. And yes, even if you're one of the .001% that is pulling the rom off the original board, I think it is still considered piracy according to the rules governing fair use.

Pwnage Deepblue, Pwnage

Oh and guess what people, now that it's a good week and Mameseer hasnt responded to ANY of my Emails, including one sent to his LinkedIN.com page, I am now protesting Mameseer and his Maximus Arcade program.  Eff this guy for treating all of us like sh*t!

Mameseer, we loved your program, we loved all the people helping and making it better, but since you dropped off the face of the earth, and left all of us hanging for MONTHS!  WTF you expect from people?  We can only take so much.

I'm now reverting to a hacked copy if I can find one. Or a working keycode..as google will be my friend.  I'm forked until I get a stupid keycode for MA.

And yes, I will not be paying another $25 to an empty business. Sorry charlie!

Mameseer, if you are on hard times, we understand but you need to make a effing consorted effort to contact your customers.  You failed EPIC style man, straight up Epic.

UPDATE:  I just sent Mameseer an Email at this employment.  :)   LOL

HOLY SH*T FOLKS!  MAMESEER RESPONDED TO MY EMAIL!!!!   YESSSSSSSSS!!       :applaud: :applaud: :applaud: :applaud: :applaud:

He gave me my keycode again for MA.   Wow, awesome.  So, I guess he isnt "dead" then.

Mameseer, if you read these forums, thanks for finally getting back to me.  I guess it took a direct Email to your employer to get a response, but it worked.  Thanks again.  Also please update your customers on the future of MA... we really miss the updates, and your pissing off lots of people that spent money on your software.  You know this.  Please take care of your loyal customers!!

Good day all

I gotta admit I'm impressed you found out his employer.

Yeah Nice work man!! good for you!

it's kinda starting to piss me of he's still charging for what is essentially dead software with NO support,
except what we are doing here for him for free (and when I say "we" I mean Delusional)

Your right Bender,

Yes, it took some internet tom foolery to get his employer, but I found it and sent off that email. If no response, I was going to simply call the place and go that route.  But mameseer took care of it and I'm all good now.

I still some hope he will continue with his MA upgrades, but I guess if 1 comes out a year, we are lucky.

I wouldn't recommend anyone buying his MA software anymore, since we are not even sure he will reply with a keycode for new buyers.   And the support is really dried up, except Delusionals great works.

Peace
