Hey guys. Last night I cut in half a DB 25 cables in preparation for wiring my new panel. I have two cables, I want to use 1 cable per player. Well I didn't get much time to start wiring before my buddy called for Warcraft 3. But I noticed that some of the wires in there look to be the same color. Maybe I'm just half color blind, but are there 25 unique colors in there?

Sometimes they use a stripe on the wire (and on 28 or 32 gauge wire it can be tough to see).

Sometimes they might repeat colors.

Best bet is to use a multimeter and verify the wire to pin connections, then label the wires.

My experience is that the colors are all different, although hard to see (especially at my age

)

Usually they repeat the main colors with a small black stripe and others with a small white stripe.

Get out your magnifying glass and a multi-meter to verify.

Yeah, this was the case. They were all different. I just had to study them for a little bit

Another question.

Say i wanted to wire another panel, using this DB25 quick swap method. If I buy the same exact cable (belkin) will the colors match up? In other words, as an example, is pin 1 on the cables always blue?

Not necessarily. If it's the same exact part from the same vendor, it's pretty safe, but sometimes they subvend this out, and they could use more than one vendor, and the color coding might not matter to them.

I would double check.

I ordered several cables from a mailorder place. I did not specify brands and the cables had different colors for different pins.

I hope yours are the same!
