4 Player Cabinet
« on: August 07, 2003, 07:05:06 am »
I have just purchased a 4 Player Simpsons cabinet  ;D

And I want to convert it to a Mamed Cabinet, I was going to use the JPAC to connect it to the Arcade Monitor, Controls, Sound etc... (might change the sound part)

what i want to know if i am going to also have a 7 button (neo geo & MK series) can i plug a ipac in after the jpac for the extra buttons etc....

I want to keep the Jamma Harness i.e for pluggin some Jamma Carts

I have also got the Arcade VGA Card, and a Ipac already and a CP (so have all buttons etc...)

Any ideas on the best way of doing this

Yes, you can use both the I-Pac and the j-pac at the same time, you will just have to reprogram the I-Pac for different keys.

You are also "tearing up" one of the most valuable JAMMA titles around. They currently seem to go for around $500, but I have seen them go over $1000 in the past.

Do your self a favor, and do not cut any holes in the original control panel. Take the panel off, and make a new one.

The buttons and Joysticks need to be fixed, i.e some new ones, what about this idea, make the CP removable so if i play a 4 player game use the Simpons CP and for the SF 2 player game or Smash TV have another CP for these

Is this a better Idea?

bleakboy,

Could you do me a huge favor and take a couple of measurements off that cab for me.  I'm looking for the dimensions of the control panel and the height off the ground.  (Top and Bottom of the Control Panel)  Also the dimensions and spacing of the joystick and buttons would be a great help.

I've actually found a few dimensions here and there, but none were the same.  I'm not sure if the people were just measuring wrong or what, but I would like a good honest measurement before I get going on my cab.  I love the simpsons and want to get the control panel layout correct.

The dimensions would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks

The Simpsons is a good cab as a whole....if you can, post the whole cab dimensions..though i'm not sure if it's legal or not ???

Well people have already copied so many other machines. Copying the Simpsons wouldn't be mcuh different.

However, I would recommend using a new style Midway cabinet rather than a Simpsons cabinet. It is an inch or too thinner so fitting through doors is easier. It also has a more updated look to it. The control panel is designed to sit on a sort of shelf so building on oversized CP is not hard. In fact, games like NBA Jam use the same cabinet with a "Midway standard" oversized panel that should suit you just fine.

There are already plans floating around here somwhere for the Midway cabinet. However, I believe it's for the regular sized control panel. They are fully interchangeable, though. I think they were deisgned to bolt in place from the inside. That's another reason why these machines were so popular for conversions.

Is this the link that you are refering to?

http://www.pcreliability.com/vectoraster/

I must have missed that post.  (I found it with a search though) Could you still post the dimensions of the control panel?  I really want a four player simpson layout.

Thanks
