My jukebox touchscreen
« on: August 08, 2010, 09:45:04 pm »
I asked a lot of questions on this forum so I thought I'd give back a little.  Here's my project.

I bought a used 18" ELO touchscreen off stinkbay for about $120 plus another 20 or so because I didn't have the power cord.  The usb/monitor cords were cheap from monoprice.com.  I think I had them laying around but they'd run you about $5 on monoprice.  I had an old pc laying around and the receiver I picked up on stinkbay for $10 by asking the seller if I could pick it up (no shipping) and searched locally--took me awhile to get one but you can do a "saved search" on stinkbay and you'll get notified every day when new auctions come up.  The speakers I also had laying around from an old home theater system I used to have.

So total $$$ into the project:

Monitor $140
PC  $0
cords $5
receiver to power the speakers $10
speakers $0
Total $155

Probably the lesson learned is..... Don't throw away all that old stereo equipment or pc's cause they might come in handy!

Enjoy the pictures!

Please ask if you have any questions.

Hello!
I don't know if your planning on installing trim around the monitor or not.
But a cost effective idea is to use one of those old thick fancy picture frames, sometimes you can find them at yard sales for a few dollars.
The idea is that your monitor would resemble a framed picture. Just a thought...

Thanks for the post! :applaud:

Oh  shoot!  I thought I posted some of those pictures.  I already framed it.  I used the same poplar frame I used to frame my basement and stained it a cherry color.  Here's the pictures.  Thanks for the post!

I have Album Player for my jukebox software and a casino game to play video games with.

I am planning on doing the same, i have a stripped elo monitor, how did you frame it in the wall to avoid getting pushed back during screen presses?

Sorry, I haven't been back to this forum for a while but stumbled across it just now.

Yes, I'm in Omaha Nebraska.  You?

As you can see, I attached some wood around the monitor frame before I installed it.  I think I just used the same holes that were already in the metal frame.  Then I used long wood screws to attach the wood around the monitor to my hole location.  It is very, very stable.  Not going anywhere!

Hey Huskerfan.... where did you get the casino software!

Thanks.
I hate to admit it but I think I used a torrent.  But since the pc I'm using is just an old one I had laying around, I could not use very new software.  So the software is many years old so it could still run on my old puter.  :)

I am currently doing the same for my father in law at his house. I just broke the damn screen though, and we had to order another one! The issue I am having is that we are using a 15inch monitor, but the studs are to close together. I had to chisel out about 1/4inch off the face of the studs and that left an uneven surface and I was using my impact drill.... Yeah. Now I have to figure out how to frame it because it still sits about 1/4inch off from the wall. It's not sitting flush. I'm going to have to build a custom frame for it to make it work. Anyway his house is wired for whole home audio. Using album player as well due to the tunes remote feature. It should let them control the music anywhere in the house using their galaxy tab.

I'm currently using xlobby but their android app only works with the full version which i don't own.  Does album player have an android app?

orion or anyone else, you just cut the 2x4 above and below the hole and "header" them off.  So, you cut the middle vertical stud and then cut to size that runs horizontal and toe nail that one on top and bottom.  Wish I had a picture but you could probably google the procedure pretty easily  Actually I just found a picture.  Here you go:

It is really hard to nail in those extra studs when there is already sheeting on the wall.  They should be toe nailed at the bottom and top.  Almost impossible with drywall already on.

I thought about that, but what BobA said... I am thinking of taking apart my juke at some point at my house and doing the same thing. I will probably use my router on the studs though instead of using a chisel!
