Optiwiz connectors - where to buy.
« on: August 05, 2010, 08:23:04 pm »
I bought a no-solder optiwiz from GGG.  It has small connectors almost like for jumpers on a computer.  I tried radioshack but they have nothing that will connect to them.  Where can I find connectors?

GGG sells the connector cable.   I could not see a pic of it but it it closely spaced dual row of pins it will probably be the same type of connector use with most pcs.  I think it is .1 spacing for most PC header connectors.

Ah, I guess I would need these:

But I don't want to spend that kind of money.  I wish I could just find the connectors and do the wiring myself.

I ripped some of the front panel wires out of an old pc case for mine...those old Cd-Rom drive audio cables work well too ...of you don't have any, check your local  pc repair shop ..they'll probably hook you up for next to nothing

Aren't these just dual row headers (0.1" spacing) just like an IDE cable?  I thought that was the whole point in that you can just grab an old IDE cable and start wiring away.

You can get them on ebay from Hong Kong:
4 pin header connector
8 pin header connector

If you go with this style you'll need a crimper as well like This one

After looking again, I'm wondering if the no-solder version is just the solder board with the pin strip installed?  Maybe I'm thinking of the earlier version that used to have a dual row of pins for the no-solder version.   :dunno

Two rows of .1" on center connections.  Ribbon cable connectors work fine, as do many other sources (a number of them mentioned in this thread) for .1" on center female connectors.

I found some connectors from Allied Electronics (http://www.alliedelec.com/) that will work but before doing so I went down to the local computer store and they gave me a ton of connectors for free that they ripped from junked computers.  It seems I have several options.  Thanks all.
