Rowe R-93 combo
« on: August 02, 2010, 02:43:39 pm »
Hello, when I bought this I was not told the fact that someone had completely done away with the cd player. So, I bought a used cd player, installed it,but the problem is it plays the whole cd instead of programmed tracks. If I push 5001 it plays the whole cd if I push 5006 it does the same. It does distinguish between the cd's and does play the right one. I have programmed and programmed and can't find the problem. Can anyone please help me with this thing?

See if there is an initialization routine. I'm not sure about your machine but the 100 series you had to do a #3-0-full initialization (on display) then hit popular. Cd player would read the #of tracks and store it in memory.

Check it out... If someone has other info submit otherwise I'll check into it once I get back to the shop.

EDIT:

now that i think of it, i think it's 777... ugh...so...long...ago...must dig...in brain...

well if you don't have a manual they can be obtained in PDF form froooooooommmm... "http://thearcadeboneyard.com/RoweJukeboxManuals.html"

Thanks, but I have a manual and I have initialized it. I figure I have part of the programming off. or The cd player needs to be programmed. It does have a programming button, but I'm not sure how to,the cd player that is. I would appreciate any and all info you can give me on this thing. Thank You
Larry

speaking with another tech, the issue you are describing was a common problem with the cd portion, sometimes playing 1 track and other times playing the whole thing, others not playing at all.

i guess the cd portions of the machines never really worked right from the get go. rowe had released a "fixed" board for them but it didn't really work either. they later issued a service bulletin to unplug the units or remove them from service until a permanent fix could be found.............. and here we are, they instead decided to just wish the problem away.

 :dunno

you just might be out of luck.

I've never found a solution to this. I have given up for now. I just listen to the whole cd when I want to. I believe the problem is with the cd player though.I messed with the programming on the cd player itself and got it to actually play one track, but I reprogrammed the jukebox and it doesn't do it now and I'm not sure how I did it.
 Thanks
Larry

Hmm on mine you can play tracks 1&10+ but otherwise it just plays the whole cd. When I go on the ccc it shows the right number of tracks on the cds.  :dunno First I found a cd player in my moms garage she kept meaning to throw away and soldiered wires and plugged it in. It did the same exact same thing. Then I bought  aspecific cd player for this juke and again same exact thing.
I think its sending the wrong signal to the cd player, both the cd player and the ccc work fine, somthing just gets crossed in between.
I want to try to burn another eprom for the ccc but I cant find images anywhere.

The problem is with the programming in the computer itself... Not the cd unit. Seems the computer has troubles sending proper information to the player... The player is just doing what the ccc is telling it to.

Like I mentioned, there was a board released to fix it, but I didn't work properly either.

A bulletin was issued from rowe to remove the CD portion or place it out of service until a permanent fix could be made...

It never was.

Yeah thats what I think as well, thats why im tring to find another program to burn onto the computer.
Theres tens of thousands of cd players out there that the cd player works just fine in.

Hi Larry,

Can you confirm that the R-93 Combo jukebox that you have plays 45's and has a one (or two) CD players fitted.

If the above is correct then it could be that you have a problem with the CD interface board.

This R-93 is a 45 player and it is made for one cd player that holds 6 cd's. It's a combo player that has the cd that revolves on the top. Thanks
Larry

Hi Larry,

You need to get hold of the following supplement.
R-91 Phonograph Supplement CD/45 Combo part number 21896901.

This supplement describes the initialization sequence and the programming codes required. It was first published in 1987.

Regards
Alan
