My First Cabinet! [Pics Inside]
« on: August 05, 2003, 04:19:45 pm »
You could say that I have too much time on my hands :)

I wanted to check the Lucsid plans I had gotten off the web, so I went out, bought some poster board and measured everything out to scale (1 inch = 0.5cm) so I could "test" the build as some parts of the plan didn't make sense to me.

I've not done any woodworking since I was 15, so I wanted to at least check that I could work it out. The "bottom supports" took some time to figure out, but I got there in the end.

Thought I'd share. Maybe I'll to the Pac-Man cocktail cab this afternoon :)

Another one...

(Excuse the JPG banding. My camera is great, but I had it set on 2200x1500 and the pics were massive, so I reduced them quickly but it leaves noticable compression problems)

Not to go dogging or anything, but this really isn't the forum for this post. "Main" already gets alot of stuff in it. This couldn't even be considered an announcement since it's not a real machine. It probably belongs in "Everything Else".

I did the same thing 2 months ago before I started my cabinet.  I ended up replacing Lusid's Cp with a larger 4 player one so I redid the cp and cp box.

Lusid's plan's made perfect sense after building a crummy model.  Everyone should start that way before they start cutting real wood!

Well, considering this is a valuable part of my build (I wanted the model to see how everything fit together and it showed a few problems with the plans in their current state), I think it's relevant. The definition of this forum is:

"- Building arcade controls, cabinets, console adapters, etc... "

This is a step to my cab. I posted it for people to see since I had the camera at hand at the time. Sorry if it offends you.

Did you find that the back panels didn't assemble as they should? I double-checked my measurements God knows how many times, and in the end I ended up taking another set to make two doors for the back.

I'm also assuming that the two "bottom supports" for the base are placed as battons to allow you to screw the side panels onto the base?

The main reason I built the model was to see how hard it would be to chop the thing in two, allowing me to move it easily with one person (another reason the model is chopped in half). I'm still considering how to join the two halves when you want to play.

I made my own back panel and ignored Lusid's 2 back plates.  Lusid's 2 back plates fit but they leave a large opening at the bottom for cords to go through.

The back of my arcade is completely covered.  I have one large panel that detaches and one small fixed panel at the bottom.  I have some fans mounted  on the fixed panel.

The bottom supports I put in a rectangle around the base with the shorter side facing the front of the cab.

Here is some really bad ascii art showing my base

To move my cabinet around, I have casters and it fits through doors so there was no need to chop it in half.  I don't think lusid's design is best suited for a 2 piece cab.
