X-Arcade Tank Stick Opinions?
« on: August 01, 2010, 03:24:54 pm »
I'm working on my first cabinet and was planning on getting the x-arcade tank stick.  I've heard mixed review regarding fighting games, such as Street Fighter not being accurate due to the touchy joystick.  For instance, combo's being harder to pull off on the tankstick as opposed to a Hori stick.  Could anyone with the tankstick provide feedback?  Thanks!

Depends on your budget, Can you build one yourself or you are buying the entire cabinet. I had a tank stick to start without a cab, shortly after i sold it. Do to compulsive behavior i needed more and the tank stick is just not enough. So I would recommend if you are going to buy one, get a used tank first which are ususlly in great shape, because im sure you'll end up upgrading shortly. In other words the Tank Stick suks compare to the competion.

Had one. I upgraded by building my own panel with U360's.

X-gaming's products are a gateway drug. You'll just want more.
Man, will my cab EVER be finished?

I bought a gutted MK2 cabinet. There is no control panel, so I was thinking to just get the tank stick and build a small shelf for proper height adjustment then have the tank stick sit on that.

Thats fine make sure you buy a used tank stick if you want to get it up and running fast, because youll want to upgrade later especially if you have an MK cab already.

I currently own a dual tankstick, which is what got me into the hobby. I bought it before i knew of BYOAC or the mame community in general. But i'm currently building a custom CP to replace it.

PROS:
  • USB, PS2 connectivity and console adapters if you wish
  • The encoder is programmable its quite nice
  • Its nice and heavy
  • Build quality is damn good
  • None of the components have failed, i have given it a real hard beating, plus it was second hand when i got it
  • You dont have to build it yourself

CONS:
  • I hate the joysticks - Large throw, large deadzone, spongy feel and no restrictor plates, they just suck in general
  • Button layout is not very ergonomic
  • I dont like the big 'X-Arcade' logo
  • The buttons sound cheap when you press them
  • Its kind of expensive compared to other options
  • you dont get to build it yourself
  • The parts arn't Japanese, nor even industry standard HAPP

To conclude i would say that for fighters this stick sucks, its just not precise enough so if you play a lot of street fighter like myself then get something with sanwa/seimitsu sticks straight up. On the other hand, its a well built reliable stick if you dont need the precision required for fighters. Mine will probably be recycled into a cocktail or classics cab in the future...
