Long load times in MAMEUI .138
« on: July 30, 2010, 02:25:29 pm »
So, as I said, I'm running MAMEUI through Maximus Arcade.  Games still run perfectly, but starting the game is whats irking me.  I press the select button, and it just shows a blank screen for atleast 30 seconds, and then loads the game properly.  Is this just how it's supposed to work? or is there a setting I can tweak to change that.  I had save states enabled, but I disabled that because it helped it run a little faster, but is there something else to do?

Thanks,
brownicus.

Why are you running a GUI Mame with a front end? Seems kinda counter productive. Have you tried the command line version?

new to the whole, multicade scene.  I'm too stupid to compile the command line version.

You can try using a command line version without custom compiling to see if it will help load times.  If it does, take the next step and learn to custom compile.  If you get that far, look for Headkaze's MAME compiler 64.  It will do everything you need to do without much more that clicking a few buttons!

and I'm just looking at the "binary version" for windows, yeah?  and when it asks for the rom location via .ini file, do I have to compile that ini on my own?

Just download the binary Windows version and put it in your current MAMEUI directory.  It will probably need its own ini file since I don't think MAMEUI's ini will be compatible.  If you need to create a new one, just run "mame.exe -cc" and it will spit out a default one that you can then modify.
