I'm thinking some sort of DPDT self centering rocker switch.

The Happ Up-Down Shifter would be a bit much.

I'm looking for a dedicated switch (not using the shift function).

Any suggestions?

If it's for the IPAC, then it's controlled by keystrokes.  I assume you'd have one button for Volume Up and another button for Volume Down.

Right, but he's asking the best alternative to that. I think the rocker switch sounds like a good idea.

Not trying to complicate a seemingly simple question, but are you committed one way or the other to a software solution vs. a hardware solution?
In other words, it sounds like you are going the route of controlling the Windows volume via some kind of switch or switches, through the IPac, with kind of software such as ahofle's CabVol app(http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=69901.msg714459#msg714459).  In this case yeah, a self-centering DPDT rocker switch sounds like a good choice.
The alternative being, keep the Windows volume always at Max, extend the wires on your amplifier's volume pot, and mount the pot on top of the cab, beneath the CP, behind the coin door, etc.

With the new ipac firmware, he doesn't need cabvol.

All of a sudden Mark's subject line for this thread makes perfect sense - just saw Andy's thread this morning, somehow missed it yesterday.  Please ignore my ramblings above.  ;D

Best way would be shift+spinner. But that is very difficult to code I guess. So now shift up/down is excellent too.

How about this?

You should do a search with the following terms if you want more selection:

spdt center off momentary

Alternately, do a search for "power window momentary switch".  I found the following one that looked like a possibility (second from the bottom).

Correct me if I'm wrong, Mark, but I think you only need a SPDT self-centering rocker switch for your purposes, such as this:

DPDT could be used as well, but why bother with the extra terminals (and cost)?

-EVEGames

EDIT: Or would the common Ground terminal present a potential problem??

Power window one is the exact style I was thinking.

He asks the best way. Not for himself but as a general question. IMO my suggestion would be the best solution for volume control.

But he asked specifically:
What's the best button to use for new I-Pac Volume Control?

Then stated he wanted dedicated functions, not shifted.
