Any one have Retro Ring Tones for your phone?
« on: July 15, 2010, 11:30:33 pm »
So, I finally got a smart phone instead of my crappy old phone I used to have.

That said, I was downloading some ring tones and of course, the geek that I am, I searched for retro arcade stuff.

Here's what I found so far, but I'd like to know if anyone has another other good ones:
-  Bombjack Theme
-  Crystal Castles music when you grab the hat:  I use this for my alarm
-  Galaga change stage music
-  Robotron - End of level sound effect (with and without alien brains spawning)
-  Gauntlet Key sound:  I use this for incoming e-mails
-  Ms. Pacman Scene 1 music:  I assign this to my wife when she calls.  :applaud:
-  Tron Arcade Theme
-  Gyruss Arcade Theme
-  SMB3 underground level theme (same music as SMB1 but remixed with a cool beat for SMB3)
-  Zelda flute sound (NES)
-  Venture music (Colecovision)
-  Mortal Kombat II - The Screaming Forest:  I edited this one down to about 10 secs.

Any other ones?  I'd love to have some Joust sounds or any other cool games.

They can be in wav or mp3 format.  My phone takes both.

Thanks for the help.

The first few seconds of the Ironside theme are my ring-tone.   Never fails to annoy.

Your Ms. Pac Man idea is really clever.  I may be stealing that.

Not really retro, but I use X-Naut fortress from Paper Mario 2. Eventually I'll change it.

However, I also have the Super Mario Bros. theme (not the original, but close) as my ringback tone. Anyone who knows me and calls my cell knows, without a doubt, that they dialed the right number.

I always felt like an overly geeky ring tone branded me with an "L" on my forehead ;D Whether I deserve it or not is not the point, lol.

I'm not hard of hearing by any stretch, but I do find most stock ring tones and MP3s to play too softly, even at max volume, to be reliably heard unless you are holding your phone. So when I am anywhere beyond the home or office, my ring tone is set to an old fashioned ma-bell style in-your-face ring.

Cool.

I use the Happy Tree Friends theme for my GF. Not really retro, but it's a similar type of simple tune :)

BTW where do you guys get these arcade ringtones? Can you get them from the games themselves or do you record it somehow?

What kind of smart phone?  Droid, Iphone, other?

My ring tone is "scotty doesn't know" from Euro Trip movie. Great song.

I would like to get the music from Captain Commando. Like when you choose him as a character on marvel v capcom or any of those fighting games. Capcom makes the best music imo. Or Flash Mans music from Mega Man 2. Booyah.  :applaud:

Not at all retro, but my text/e-mail tone on my BB is the metal gear solid codec beep.

The girlfriend has assorted mario sounds on her iphone, but I love my mgs codec too much to change it to anything else.

My ringtone is always just my song of the week.

What OS does your new smart phone use?

There are actually MAME ports to some platforms!

Symbian S60 3rd edition
http://www.harmonicode.com/EEMame/

Symbian S60v5
http://sites.google.com/site/mamexm/

Android
http://androidandme.com/2009/04/reviews/android-arcade-mame-emulator-for-android-on-g1/

Maemo (in the works, some roms playable)
http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=42824

I'm using the first one on my Nokia N95 8GB.  The early 80's stuff plays fine & the mid 80's stuff runs slow.
It uses old MAME version .32 roms IIRC.

Together with the TV-out & a bluetooth controller, it ain't half bad for killing time in hotels.

Anything I turn into my ringtone becomes a tone I dislike. I just use a general ringtone off the phone. I don't want my phone to scream NERD at the worst possible time.

Ugh, BB Tours... ---smurfy--- black ball... impossible to clean...

It's running BB OS 5.0 most likely...

hat being said, I use a BB storm... even bigger POS... can't wait to trade it in for a BB Pearl 2. The touchpads are muuuuuuuuuch nicer than any trackball. The only thing that made me decide on a storm was not having to use a ball...

You must have the Storm v1 - I just upgraded my v1 to a version 2 - waaayy better. So much so, it's like night and day. Can't wait for OS 6 to come out, looks cool...

I do have the storm 1, but with os 5.0. It provided a VERY substantial speedboost. I deal with the Cellular communications within the company, so I've played around with pretty much every phone (minus smart phones or anything android).

The storm 2 is a nice step up. Not much different from the storm 1 on bbos 5.0, though.

Yeah, with the same OS, they're on par - except for the button under the screen. The electric-controlled four button setup on the new Storm is so much better than the single mechanical button in the middle of the screen on the version 1. I've had mine for about a month now and already I've found it's made my use of the phone much easier, and more accurate when I select items, plus I can type\select items faster.

I had a little free time so I downloaded Magical Sound Shower and chopped it for you.

I don't know how long you wanted it but its about 42 seconds. I chopped it in a way so that it will loop nicely if your phone etc does that.

I also chopped a section out in case you wanted a matching message alert.

I know its not an arcade game as such but I found quite a nice Mario Invincibility mp3 to use as my ringtone. I've faded the first second or so in so that it doesn't give me a heart attack when it goes off  :o  ;D

Edit:

If anyone wants be to try to find or edit etc anything else I don't mind :)

I don't know what the legalities are but maybe we could have a SFX/ringtone section in the File Repository?
