Maximus Arcade issues that are driving me crazy
« on: July 14, 2010, 10:12:12 am »
OK so for some reason now my master games list for Mame in MA only shows certain games.  However, the missing games will appear in other games lists like 8-way, 4-way game lists.  I have verified all roms are present in the mame rom folder.  I have deleted and had MA recreate a master games list and have also done force rescan.

NONE of these options have fixed my issue.  I simply dont understand the problem with MA not being able to show a complete master games list.  Any thoughts?

Also, the other problem I'm having is that Stella runs fine outside of MA.  But once I'm in MA, select Stella, and select a game none of the buttons work.  I cant start or play a game.  I have remapped the keys in Stella but nothing works inside MA once the game is selected from the menu.

 :banghead:

Any help would be appreciated

On the Stella issue, check the location where you have your config files located.  I had an issue when I was running MA under a different user than the one I was testing Stella with.  The default for Stella at the time was to put the config files into the user's APPDATA folder (~/Application Data/Stella').  So running in two different accounts was screwing me up.

Try deleting the file "MAME.lst" in the preferences directory.  (Make sure you back it up).

Then enter the front end and right click anywhere and select "rescan media" for MAME.  It should create a new mame.lst file.

Let me know if this works or not.

I've already tried this to no avail....but thanks.  You are talking about the xml document right?  At least I think thats the file format.

No.  mame.lst is the file that Maximus looks for when creating game lists.  It's a proprietary format for Maximus.

OK so I tried your suggestion Delusional and it didnt work.

Interestingly, under my initial preferences folder I have ANOTHER preferences and skins folder (skins folder has nothing in it).  Under the second preferences folder I have another long list of .lst files.  So I deleted both the Mame.lst file from this preferences folder AND the Mame.lst file from the other preferences folder.  Again no luck.

BTW - what are the esp files that are located directly under the master MA folder that sits on my desktop?  The reason I ask is because my Mame ESP file is by far the smallest of the other emulator ESP files.  Maybe this file has something to do with the games lists and its incomplete?  The Mame ESP file is only like 480 KB vs. 750 KB+ for almost every other emulator.  Outside of this there doesnt seem to be anything else in the MA folders to tinker with?

Well not on a different directory....I did download a new 2.10 version and simply copied over a new executable - with no luck.  I will try creating a new MA folder but will I still be able then to copy over all my old preferences?

So I tried another fresh install on another directory - still no luck.  I really don't want to figure out another emulator  but I guess I have no choice.  HS is way more complicated than MA......damn.

Yea I already did all that (see couple posts above)......still no luck.  Like I said, I will probably have to revisit HS at some point but I'd prefer not to since I just got Spacegoogie's theme and its good enough for me not to have to want to mess around with HS.

Until that time though I can still access all the games I just have to go to different game lists like favorites, 4way, 8 way...etc.

Thanks for the comments though I appreciate the help.

OK well my Mame cabinet has been dormant for about 5 months as I've recently built a new house.  When I first moved in I was eager to boot up the cabinet which I did only to discover monitor issues.  Now that is fixed and I've turned my attention to fixing previously known software bugs.....such as described in this thread.

So my question is has anyone had a similar problem with the master game list not showing all roms?  If so please respond....
