How to program new MiniPac?
« on: July 13, 2010, 05:33:47 am »
I just installed a new minipac (the mini USB port UHID lookalike version), and it does not work with the WiniPac utility. I get an error "Failed to program device" error, after which the unit does not work any more until I replug it into the USB port. I also tried the U-config utility (as it looks like a UHID), but that one does not recognize the board at all. Do we need a new utility for the new MiniPAC?

I had this same problem when we built my friend's cabinet.  We ended up just making the default settings work.  Are you using Vista by chance?  I was having all sorts of trouble trying to install both winIPAC and the U360 software on his cabinet running Vista.

It is running on XP,
I'll see if I can hook it to a Mac.

MacIpac can program the new MiniPac, but not the shift function. :(
I see it works partly as the changes in non-shift buttons are uploaded, where the shift ones don't

The DOS application under XP works but gives a time-out error when choosing program.

Tried WiniPac again, after programming, you get an error, and the whole controlpanel goes "offline" until you reboot.

Got a quick response from Andy:

On the PC, make sure you have the latest WinIPAC version and in "options"
select the 32-input I-PAC board.

On the Mac, select the I-PAC VE board (which has 32 inputs).

It worked!  ;D
Note that on the VE board, button 7 and 8 seem to miss, but they are named P1-A, P1-B, P2-A and P2-B

On Vista and W7, the first time the program is run it needs to be run by right-click and "run as administrator" so the driver installs. Thats the usual issue with these versions.
