PS/2 to USB Keywiz
« on: July 12, 2010, 12:40:34 pm »
I just got my Keywiz encoder and I though that my computer had a PS/2 port on it but apparently it does not...  I found a PS/2 to usb cable and I was wondering if I could use that instead of having to find a completely new computer or buy a new encoder.

Thanks

Keywiz encoders are generally not USB adapter friendly. You may get lucky and find an adapter that works with no issues, however if after hooking it up and you have problems, it most likely is the fact Keywiz isn't compatible with it.

You could go with something like this:

PCI Adapter

However, you're probably better going with a GPWiz or an Ipac. If you just bought it, I would see what Randy can do as far as exchanging it...

Ok thanks alot.  Ill give it a try with the adapter, then Ill get a pci adapter and see if that works, if not Ill try to exchange or buy another one.

The function of those inexpensive in-line adapters actually have nothing to do with the KeyWiz per se, rather it's just the way they work.  They generally are not great for gaming, even if you plug a standard keyboard into them.  But the KeyWiz is just as compatible with them as any keyboard, and will function correctly within the limitations of the adapter.

But yes, I can swap out the unused KeyWiz for a GP-Wiz if the OP emails me.
