Are there any auctions in New Jersey???
« on: August 04, 2003, 12:59:15 am »
I just saw in the Dallas auction thread that there is an auction in Jersey in a few days. Of course.... story of my life.... I have work :(

Are there any other auctions in NJ that anyone knows of? Or do I just wait till that auction comes back around in god knows how long.

Actually, anyone know anywhere in NJ to get cabs? Stores, someone selling, anything.

Actually, New Jersey is supposed to be the single hottest spot for arcade games and auctions in general. They have auctions MONTHLY there. As in every month. Sometimes more than one.

That guys tracks the New Jersey auction prices. Shows you how frequent they really are there.

awesome. thank you for the info.  Heh, I was in an arcade hotspot and had no idea  :D  NJ does have more arcades than most states nowadays however, so I guess it makes sense.

Now to start hunting :)

Is there any sites or resources that tracks upcoming auctions?? I guess I'll just have to start looking in the classifieds too.

If you want a cab in NJ, I have a Jamma cab - it was a Final Blow cab until I converted it for my mame project. It's complete with 19" monitor, marquee, monitor bezel, and a coin door that is already wired to go into a PC's power supply.

The only thing it will need is a control panel built for it, unless you want to reuse mine by just adding buttons, sticks, and a trackball.

It's yours free if you want. I'm in Brick (Ocean County, exit 88 on the Parkway.)

USAmusements had been running auctions regularly in the NJ/PA area.  I believe they are looking for a new site in NJ after the South Jersey Expo Center in Pennsauken closed.  I am waiting to hear back from them and will post when I do have any info.

Just as a general note, I've found that when you plan to actually buy a machine from an operator or an auction it's best to do it in fall or winter. The best time to sell a machine is in spring. (Of course, these rules don't apply to collectors.)

Operators make their biggest bucks in the summer months when kids are out of school and everybody is vacationing and having fun. So they buy up all the machines they need for routes, arcades, and other contracts in spring and prep to make the big money during summer. Then they dump them locally or at auctions when school starts again and they aren't raking in the big bucks. This usually happens around October.

Supply & Demand

The fall and early winter are probably the worst time to buy, prices are usually driven up before the holidays.  The auctions are filled with the one time buyers who need to get that SPECIAL gift and just add to the bidding.  Right after the new year until early spring is the best time to buy, with arcade operators and dealers trying to clear space for new games for the summer.  This holds true for NJ at least.
During the summer most families are vacationing and doing outdoor activities.  You usually dont get that casual person coming to buy an arcade game.

You can definitely see it in the amount of auctions held between Oct-March compared with that of May-Sept.
