What are you using now to interface the trackball & spinner?  Opti-PAC?  When an optical device just flickers, that is usually an indicator of misaligned optic board or fried phototransistor.

Going to Win98SE will only really help if you plan to use Analog+, it doesn't have anything to do with having multiple mice for a trackball and spinner unless you need to assign the mice to different players.

Actually, you only need analog+ with win98 if yo have two mouse devices.  Two spinners is one mouse :)  You can use analog+ to split axis in any windows.

In my disjointed rambling, that is exactly what I was getting at.  Going to Win98SE really only helps if you need to use Analog+ to assign different mice to different players.

Axis splitting/switching is a different issue, and not what the original poster was asking about if I understand correctly.

ok, nm. i forgot about the port 2's going to port 1 when in 1 player mode. so i can connect them all seperate.

if i can get the opti to work now.
has anyone ever had the opti not install cuz xp insists on using exact drivers?
it only detects it as 1 mouse, and then it wont work with the "HID compliant mouse".
on my other comp (which has now been formated) i remember it installing the HID compliant and some EP2 thing that i cant find now  >:(.

this has just not been my day.

Hey, if you do get it figured out, be sure to post, as I plan to so the exact same setup in the near future on a cab.  I assumed that the optipac would accept input from both devices no problem.  I would hazard a guess that you would have to power each separately, instead of leeching all the 5V leads off the opti-pac.  Using the 5V power from the computer supply has always worked for me, and I was intending to wire that way for this upcoming panel.  Like I said, keep postin'  :D

Another possibility is to use Oscar's rocker switch

http://www.oscarcontrols.com/DPDTswitch.shtml

You can use the same idea with 2 spinners/Rotaries (assuming the rotaries are optical)  that way you can use 1 mouse for 4 devices.
Just have it switch between the rotaries and the spinners.
