I-Pac not recognized
« on: June 26, 2010, 12:52:46 pm »
Hey All,

I have recently moved my arcade cabinet to the upstairs of my house.  After I set everything back up and hooked up all connections, I can't get the controllers/buttons to work or be recognized.  I am using an I-Pac keyboard encoder.  It was suggested from here and Andy that it sounded like a connection was loose.  I checked and rechecked and everything looked ok.  The I-Pac is functional because the LED is on and it powers an LED light for my trackball, which is working.  In a last ditch effort, I tried hooking up the controller to another computer.  I fired up Notepad, and everything worked!

Any suggestions as to why my other computer won't recognize the controller all of a sudden?

thanks for all your help!

I did this one time. There are two Serial PS/2 ports on the Ipac (at least on the Ipac4) One is for input, one for output. when I re-connected everything, and nothing worked it was because I connected the USB/Serial cable to the wrong serial jack on the Ipac. Try switching it? (or did you already get it to work with another computer?)

If that isn't it, have you tried another USB device where your ipac was? Bottom line, if your IPAC works on another computer, than it's your computer that is the problem.

AFAIK, those two "serial ports" are PS/2 ports. Those exist in the ipac that connect to the computer with the classical PS/2 port.
The firts question for deadmoney5 is: Which is the connection of your Ipac? USB or PS/2?

The I-Pac2 I have has 2 PS/2 ports.  Once I knew that it worked on another computer, I went back to the Mame computer and turned it on.  Once everything loaded up, I plugged the I-Pac into the keyboard port of the computer.  Everything froze, so I shut it down.  In the past (when everything was working), I had the machine rigged so that I just had to hit the Power button on the keyboard to start up the computer...then it went right into the front end.  After everything froze and I shut her down, the power button suddenly worked on the keyboard again, and everything works now.  I went into Notepad and the keys were working again...go figure.

I don't even know what I did.

thanks for your help everyone!

The old PS/2 connection on most older computers had to be connected BEFORE you power on the computer.
