I miss Radio Shack. Up here in Canada, all we have is The Source, since ratshack was bought out a few years back by Circuit City.
Gone are the days of PCB breadboards, ICs, and transistors. Now it's all R/C cars, computers (notebooks mostly), and televisions; all of which are awfully over-priced.
Just a matter of time until it's gone all together, thank God for the Ma & Pa electronics shop in my city! I get my tools and wiring from Princess Auto, and all the actual components and soldering equipment from the electronics shop. Between those 2 stores, I've always been able to find what I need, typically below 5$ for tools.
Radio Shack still has hobby soldering kits, that consist of a 40w iron, stand, and sponge. This bundle ends up costing MORE than a 25w Weller Iron and a nice aluminum tip cleaner... go figure...
As for part numbers? They keep the old stock on hand, until it's all sold. Unfortunately, they can look up store inventory by US Radio Shack numbers, but they can't order anything in :/
