Cleaning Joystick Shafts - What to use?
« on: June 18, 2010, 07:37:29 pm »
What's the best product to clean the metal shafts of joysticks?  The sticks are a little sticky and have a little rust on them.  What product(s) are safe to use on the shafts to clean as well as lubricate?

BTW, they are 49 way sticks.

I just cleaned/polished/de-oxidationized a whole bunch of Wico ball-top sticks with the following procedure:

1 - chuck up hidden part of stick shank in drill press, a few hundred RPM

2 - ultra fine Scotch-Brite on shaft & ball

3 - ethyl alcohol wipe with shop rag

4 - Simichrome chrome polish on shaft with shop rag

5 - Novus 3, then 2, then 1 on ball with microfiber cloth

6 - clean shaft & rag with microfiber cloth

Sticks came out *GREAT* & shafts are once again shiny, & balls' scratches are gone or minimized & balls are super reflecty!
