CP Question for a 1P Bartop and 2P buttons
« on: June 14, 2010, 02:09:12 pm »
I am getting hot and heavy with my new bartop build and was wondering if anyone else out had some advice. Its a single player bartop, but my question was about 2 player alternating games. If I wish to play those, I would need to have a 2Player start and 2Player coin, correct?

I'm trying to keep the CP clean, but if anyone has any input on that, I'd be greatful...grateful... err. I'd be very appreciative.

i guess I'm not sure if there are even that many 2P alt. games out there to justify the extra buttons also.

thanks.

  • Yeah, owning a MAME cab only leads to owning real ones. MAME just isn't good enough. It's a gateway drug.

You'll just need a single credit for 2-player alternating games, but you will need a 2nd player start button.

The only type of game I was thinking I may have issues with is a 4P cab that has dedicated coin slots per player (Gauntlet, Simpsons, etc), but I know the old "Oceania" 2P version of the Simpsons lets you select your character and put coins in any slot. Not sure about Gauntlet, so I'll have to do some testing.

thanks for the insight.

You could use a key combination for the second player start if you really want to minimize your buttons.

Sorry for the ignorance, but can that be done with just a hacked gamepad?

This bartop project is my "dumpster design". Free wood, PC, monitor, and very cheap everything else, so I'm not putting in a iPac (which I have for my upright cabinet).

Thanks.

Those games weren't taken into consideration because you said it was a single-player bartop.

sorry, you are right. there I go thinking too much again.

nevermind that... its been a long week and its only monday.

I should have stated that the other option was to have a USB port that I could add a second player gamepad to.

my plans evolve so fast its scaring me. I might as well burn what I got and start over.

Just remember that you don't HAVE to build one machine to do everything. You could make a single player bartop now, and later on, build a full 2-4 player cabinet.

Good advice.

I'll take that into consideration.

My 2P upright is being finished (stained), so this was just to fill my time.
