SNES screenshot matching goodtools name
« on: August 02, 2003, 03:58:55 am »
How to take screenshot from Zsnes...and have it properly renamed to match GoodTools list ?

Is there a particular emulator to use ? Because from what I can see Zsnes just save it under image1, image2..etc
Would I have to use another Emu ?

Thanks for any kind help ;-)

This should probably be asked in the Sofware forum??

Anyway, first up, ensure all your roms are in the goodtools names.
Zsnesw should rename the snapshot according to the name of the rom plus a date and time value if you have it set to save using png format.

e.g. AAAHH!!! Real Monsters (U) 2003 06_10 17-44-54.png

To save in png format, load up a game in Zsnesw and press F1 to bring up the snapshot menu.  Change the format to png with the bottom option.  You'll only have to do this once, and it will be saved as the format to be used everytime.

You can then use a file renamer program to remove the date and time at the end of the filename.

You can also have the save games and screenshots saved in a separate folder (making it easier to manage if you have lots of roms), by changing the "SaveDirectory ="  option in the zsnesw.cfg file.

Also, be aware that if you are using Mamewah to launch each game, you will need to use Long filenames or the resultant snapshots will also use short dos filenames.

stuzza,

for sure it should have been post in the software section (sorry this is an error)
Thanks for your response !!

Would you please answer some more question ?

1) It seems that when naming the screenshot, Zsnes use underscore ( _ ) instead of blank space...it has to be changed after too ...correct ?
2) The screenshot doesn't display in Mamewah (but I don't have the default picture used for missing Snap...instead the background is fully black...)
I tried to convert it from PNG to JPG...but without any success. Any idea please ?
3) When you have many version of a same game, do you have to make a screenshot for each one ?

Thnaks VERY much ;-)

1) Yes, it does put the _ in place of space for some reason? So yes, you will need to replace this with space afterwards. - Easily done with a file renamer app such as Oscars renamer

2) The snaps will only display in Mamewah if the name matches the roms exactly and you have pointed to the correct directories for your snaps in the config file.

3) Usually it is best to take a screenshot for each version of the game, as sometimes the game may be slightly different - I have noticed this with a few NES and gameboy title screens (although it is rarely the case).  However this is not really necessary and you can normally just copy and paste your screenshot for the first version of the game and change the names to match the other versions.  ie. if there are multiple copies of the game for [a1], [a2] et...  After all the screenshots are just used to give you a reminder of what the game is, so as long as it is the correct game then that is ok. imho
