digital pinball project sub-forum?
« on: June 08, 2010, 11:49:36 am »
i am currently interested in the concept of building a custom pinball cabinet after recently seeing some of the amazing things people are doing to run visual pinball and future pinball.

I am wondering if it would be good idea to have a sub forum to collect those projects together and discuss issue specific to setting up a digital pinball cabinet.

VPforums.org exists, so why have one here?

That seems a little simplistic.  Mameworld exists so why talk about Mame here?

I think it's a sub-section that's getting more popular so I can see the need for it.  It's not like it takes away from anything to have another dedicated area.

This is something I have my eye on going into the future although realistically its a couple years from seeing the light of day for me.  However, I would like a centralized place to scope out the projects that have already been documented.  I mean if we have a sub-forum for stuff like UncleT's jukebox and Mala than why not VP cabinets?

I vote we pull all the previously documented projects into one newly created sub-forum and move any misplaced new threads there as well.

VP forums obviously fills this need for now but I think you might find as the popularity of this type of project increases the traffic for something like this on this website will pickup as well.

Poll added, we'll see where this goes :)

RE: Mala and UncleT's Jukebox. Those are different categories. Anyone who has a product in this hobby that would like a dedicated support forum can ask for one and I'll host it. It's not a general discussion forum, it's a support forum for the product. They all go under the support forum main category.

Something like a digital pinball project sub-forum is a general discussion not related to a specific product. For that, I go off of user opinion.

:)

We are the best site for MAME cabinets and conversions. VPforum is the best for digital pinball tables. That's the difference.

I voted other, perhaps a subsection for project announcements, but VPforums.org is the place to go for general discussion/help
If you're replying to a troll you are part of the problem.
I also need to follow this advice. Ignore or report, don't reply.

I changed my vote to Yes. I wasn't thinking sub-forum, just forum. A sub of the pinball forum would be fine.

My next project is a VPin cab, so I'm all about having a spot for it!

i just suggest this to collect all existing and future project announcements into a new sub-forum - else they get buried under the "Yet Another Mame Cabinet" projects.

I voted yes.  There are a lot of these builds happening and it would be great if BYOAC became the place to discuss the build process and controls.  I agree that the software discussion in general is probably best left to VPForums.

The flavors of 'arcade controls' are expanding. We might also consider breaking out the project announcement forums by
- Mame Scratch-builds and conversions
- Restorations
- VPinball
- Jukes
- Ohter

Definitely.

Sure, there's other places, but, to tell the truth, I kinda like hanging out here.

And I love the pinball builds going on.

I'm planning on making a bartop arcade cabinet starting soon (in the design phase).  I have always loved playing VPin and am planning adding buttons so I can play on my bartop.  But, my next project is definitely going to be some sort of Virtual Pinball Machine.  I have seen several on these forums and VPForums and am dying to dive in to that project.  Making sure I stay concentrated on one at a time, but I would love to see a Virtual Pinball subforum.
