Need Some Advice From The Pros
« on: June 08, 2010, 10:22:06 am »
Ok as it is, I have an old Run N Gun as the starting point for my MAME.  But I found another cabinet (Simpsons) with a larger monitor and a better support system for a 4-player CP for fairly cheap.  It's not in great shape, but neither was the Run N Gun.  I'm working on a limited budget and with a very limited skill set here.  If my PC doesn't end up needing a ton of parts to get up to speed, then I could likely afford the new cabinet.  The problem would be that I'd end up with a bunch of extra parts.  So my questions are these.

1) Would it be worth getting the Simpsons cabinet at all or do I have a pretty good base already?

2) Is it fairly easy to get rid spare parts in the event I did buy the two?

3) Would it help me fund this at all or is the demand for the extras I have too low?  I will end up with 2 Marquees, 2 Jamma boards, and an extra cabinet with doors and stuff, and a 19" monitor that has a bit of pink on the corner, plus maybe some other parts.

The Simpsons cab would definitely be a better choice for 4 player. eBay\Craigslist the duplicate stuff; should be fairly easy to sell.

Would the benefits be worht the $200 I'd be putting out?  Could I recover that perhaps?

You will most likely not be able to recover that much, but it might be close, depending on what the condition of the parts are (working, cracked, etc)

What's the best way to get rid of a spare cabinet?  Will the damage to the front right corner make it pretty much worthless?  It's rounded and a layer of the plywood has peeled off the corner in about a 4"x4" square.

Craigslist - you should still be able to sell an empty cab for around $50. If it's too far gone, just list it for free. Once stuff is free, it will go on CL in an instant.

If I keep the cabinet for my MAME and don't buy the Simpsons one, that's exactly what I planned on doing.  :)  Thanks for the help guys.  If you can think of any other advice, throw it my way.  This site is an insane wealth of knowledge.  I'm amazed.
