Ok... so i hate hate hate installing pinball programs on pc   :hissy:

Today, I had an issue with Future Pinball.  None of the textures are showing up (so the background art).  I have no idea what may have caused this.. did updating my driver uninstall something that I may need to reinstall? The table itself and all the flippers show up, but there just all blue, gray, or red... no art no labels no nothing.

*edit* and Visual Pinball 9 works great, no issues ... =(

here's how it happened:

I always seem to find issues that other people have no problems with, but here it goes... maybe someone can help me with the new issue I came across.

So I uninstalled catalyst control center for my ATI hd radeon 4850 card so I could update to the new version of catalyst control center. I installed it because I was having issues with 3d games (there was this weird fuzzy thing that would distort the screen sometime, it's hard to describe but it made it look almost like an old vhs tape).

I didn't install avivo video converter or hydravision (other programs for the ati card) and tried a few games and they looked great.  No more issue for any emulator.

Damn. I was just about to post this exact same problem

I picked up an ATI HD4650 (a little older card than yours but still supported and all). Was using the onboard video of an ASUS M3N78-VM motherboard.

Installed the ATI drivers, rebooted, fired up FP and NONE of the background textures show. From what I can tell, all the other rendering is ok, just no textures.

Didn't have much time to play with it today, but if anyone else has run into this and solved it, I'd also love to heard about it.

Man that sucks. Yeah, everything else looks fine, but not textures.  I'll look around for an answer and let you know if I figure out the issue, can you let me know if you figure out anything?

Definitely. I'll post back to this thread if I find anything.

I had installed nvidia drivers for the onboard video. I'm wondering if I need to uninstall ATI, Uninstall nvidia and then reinstall the ATI. I'll probably be trying that first.

FP uses OpenGL doesn't it, not DirectX? Gotta check on that.

I've used RealTek VR OpenGL Extensions viewer in the past to check the support level of OpenGL on a machine. Gotta get that over to my cab and try it out too.

You can find it here
http://www.realtech-vr.com/glview/index.html

I know on another machine, I upgraded the ATI drivers and doing so actually DOWNGRADED my OpenGL support back to 1.0, which if I recall, FP had all sorts of problems with.

Going back to ATI Drivers rev 9.0 fixed that.

Well, waddaya know.

I uninstalled the nvidia and then the ATI drivers (v10.5)

Rebooted, and tried FP, sure enough it ran utterly slowly, BUT the playfield and all images rendered.

So I reinstalled just 10.5 radeon, drivers, rebooted, no images again.

Uninstall, again, then installed the 10.1 version (from AMD's website).

And Low and behold, images work!

I used GLView, and noticed that the 10.5 drivers support OpenGL4, but only partially so. The 10.1 drivers only support up to Opengl 3.6, BUT they appear to support it 100%.

No idea if that makes a diff, but from AMD's website, your 48xx card uses the same driver set as the 46xx card, so you might give that a try and see what happens.

Thanks man!

So I did the same thing you did, but with the 10.3 driver and future pinball works fine once again.  Hopefully they release an update with full support in the future but for now I'm happy as a clam.

Cool. Good to know. Looks like I skipped a little too far back. I was just getting tired of uninstalling/reinstalling

Thanks for letting me know about the 10.3 drivers!

Weird, just the flipper images are missing? Hmm.

I'll keep an eye and and see if I have any oddness like that...

FYI, Driver 10-6 claimed official support of open gl 3.3 and 4.0... don't bother, I had the same issue

ATI Drivers are a B****!  Drivers are the only reason I will never own another ATI video card.  It's a shame too because a good friend of mine is sponsored by ATI and I can get ATI products for free. I've tried may of their video products in the past and have had nothing but all kinds of problems with their drivers.  Since my last ATI failure (read drivers problems) I've sworn to never use an ATI video product ever again.  I wouldn't even recommend an ATI card to my worst enemy...

I've never had any kind of driver related issues with nVidia cards.  Yes, FP is very finicky about what driver needs to be used, but that's a FP issue that needs to be fixed and not nVidia.

+1 for Dazz

Only have one ATI card left in my computers and it is getting replaced as soon as I see a comparable Nvidia on sale.

Yeah... I was thinking about that I might upgrade.  I was on the amd forum and lots of people were getting blue screens and much worse issues. What nvidia card would be comparable to an ati hd radeon 4850?
