Control Panel Thickness...Happ controls
« on: June 01, 2010, 04:15:30 pm »
Hello all. I was reading another (very old) thread on CP thickness. From what I've read, 5/8" MDF with 1/8" plexi over it is pretty solid. My question is, will the Happ Super joysticks and Happ Pushbuttons With Horizontal Microswitches fit this thickness?

they are made for up to 3/4" i believe, so yes. you can always route out behind the joystick as well. the pushbuttons probably have closer to an inch

Thanks, just one more question :P So will I need to make any modifications to the CP to fit the pushbuttons in or will they just jut out the bottom more?

I've used Happ buttons in a couple of arcade sticks I've made already. Mounted in 3/4" board with 1/8" plexi as well. They fit just fine. You shouldn't need any modification at all.

The buttons on the sides are Happ in 3/4" wood.

3/4 in plus 1/8 plexi gives you 7/8 inch control panel.  If you a using 3/4 in t-molding along the side you will have control panel sticking out unless you sand it down a lot.  I'd recomment 1/2 inch mdf + 1/8 plexi and let the t-molding hang over the bottom a bit; nobody will be able to notice.
