Does anyone know more about this project?
« on: May 28, 2010, 01:52:09 pm »
I found this image in a 6 yr old thread here, but it was just mentioned in passing.  Looks like a really cool build for a CP, and was wondering if anyone knew of more build info about it?  It looks nice and has some sort of built in mini tv on the left.

No idea of who did it but I think its pretty awesome.

I love the profile of the CP. The wiring, finish and overall finish looks excellent too.

Ya I was curious to see if there was anymore writeup on it.   Not classic, but feels modern and fresh to me.

I'd sure hate to be player ONE  ;)

Looks interesting, just needs a little less clutter. Too busy...

I like the acrylic.  The controls do need to be much simpler though.  That's a panel that screams cool but for 2 players max and without the extras.

I've got a frankenpanel so I can easily say that I understand why they put all of that on there.

The idea isn't bad, the shape is cool, but the rest I don't quite like.

I am far from a CP expert, but here are my observations:

player one is reversed. Unless you're a left hander that never wanted to use your left hand for the stick, there's no need to reverse player one.

There is no rest for the button hand on either sides, this little ergonomy makes for short play sessions.

Acrylic / see true panels are so passé. I feel like I'm in the 90s again.

I personally wouldn't want that.  I'd dismantle it for parts.

I found the image in this thread

http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=18850

I don't like the panel as is, but it was built with some quality parts, so I was just curious.

It did give me some ideas though, like a clear CP on a bartop might work.  Solid black sides, but the entired middle part made of acrylic.  Also if you got tired of it being see through, you could add art on the inside, and the outer part would still be the protective acrylic.  It appeals to me to be able to see the entire trackball as well, and the rollers.  Sometimes it's nice to see the mechanicalness of parts in action.

I googled, but all I could find was someone who used a plexi CP on a pacman caberet.
