Arcade Joystick Help
« on: May 28, 2010, 01:03:31 am »
Hello everyone, this is my first time posting in this community :D

I just got my first Arcade machine (Ultimate Arcade I) it had no games and the hard drive was damaged, so i decided to upgrade the computer, is now running Windows 7, the problem is how do i get the Joystick and buttons to work? the drag ball works fine (it moves the mouse pointer) and i can also use the Joystick when I'm on BIOS (to move up and down) Windows happens to detect them as HID Mouse and HID Keyboard but i can't use them at all, Ive also tried WinPAC and UltraMap software with no luck   anyone has an idea of how to get they Joysticks and buttons to work?

I appreciate any help

Thanks for the reply, i haven't modified anything i just replaced the CPU, the Ultimate Arcade manual shows a computer diagram on page 12 http://www.chicago-gaming.com/Brochures/Ultimate_Arcade_Manual_Rev3.pdf I assume the card at the top of the diagram is the keyboard encoder, i could take pictures if need it although it doesn't say anything, also mine just has 2 cables instead of 3 (it shows 3 cables in the diagram), one plugged on Trackball 1 and the other one on Player 4

sorry if i didn't answer your question, I'm kinda new at this  :P

Is this one you have bought? if so you should take the issue up with the seller especially if the hard drive was damaged aswell, you may lose any warrenty by ripping it open!

Well, I formatted and installed Windows XP Lite (it runs faster) it seems like Windows detects the Arcade Joysticks and buttons as a HID keyboard and HID mouse, my Device manager also shows 2 other unknown devices maybe some drivers would fix this? any ideas?

I been doing a little research, as this is my first time doing this  :P i'm using USBLinx http://retroblast.arcadecontrols.com/reviews/Ultracade_USB%20Linx-04242006-01.html and i had it connected exactly as it was when i first got it PS/2 for buttons and USB for Trackball, according to the manual http://service.globalvr.com/downloads/ultracade/components/040-USBLNXM-UCT_USBlinx_User_Doc_v02H.pdf i don't have to use the PS/2 connection while the USB connection is available. (page 7) however it won't show a extra keyboard on the device manager

>>edit I have fixed the problem, it looks like something was wrong with the PS/2 port, but everything is working fine on USB
