Florida Heat and the Effects on a Cabinet
« on: May 23, 2010, 07:53:58 am »
I live in Tampa Fl. and I have absolutely no room to put my cabinet inside my house. It is a old house and at Mid-Day my garage is extremely hot and humid. I know it will make my PC run slower but what other negative effects will it have on my controls, arcade monitor, MDF, life span.....etc? Thanks for all your help in advance!

I don't see it being a problem, I live south of you in Cape Coral and have had chipboard cabinets in my garage for over 16 years.  No problems with sag or anything.  As long as you don't let rain hit it or spray it down with water you should be fine.  Just seal the wood with a few coats of polyurethane or paint and you should be good.  As for the electronics I would keep the pc mounted in a regular pc case.

I live in st pete and just sold my cab....nevertheless, I when I built it I used higher grade oil gloss paint and higher quality wood in order to keep it outside

if your worried about heat I would just add some computer fans to your cabinet in an inconspicuous place. every game in my arcade I run has several cooling fans built into the cabinets to keep things cool inside. You can just run them off the power supply for your pc. again thats how most of the cabinets in my work arcade are. And I plan to do the same with my Pac-Mame i am building
