So, you just finished your 3rd, maybe even 4th arcade. You like your game room but it feels so....quiet. It doesn't feel like an arcade.

Well, whilst Googling for some arcade sounds, I came across this: http://arcade.hofle.com/

This fine gentleman has put together several (very long) .mp3's with ambient arcade sound. Just burn it to a CD, or perhaps drop it on your mp3 player, and pump it through your game room. He has recordings from 1981-1992, and they're all really sweet.

Anyway enough my blabbering, I figured I would just share it with you cause it could really add that final touch to your game room.

That's why I at least said thanks. I figure there will be people who didn't know about it.

No worries. We've had an influx of new people lately, so as you can already see, it's news to them.

Seaking as an arcde manage and someone who works in an arcade for many hours day, I can and will gladly deal with NOT having the "ambiance" of running, screaming, bratty kids while trying to enjoy my classic arcade games at home.

So THAT'S what Hofle's recordings are missing! I knew there was something a touch off about them!

seriously. I'm at work right now. between the blaring 50's and 60's music, the running, screaming children, the kids crying because they dont have enough tickets for the prizes they want, and all the various attract modes and game sounds. Yeah I'll do without the arcade ambiance add on when I finish my cabinet

It's quite possible that you are comparing a redemption arcade to a classic arcade.  Classic arcades that I frequented mostly had middle school aged kids and up.  Not a single ticket.  Not a single prize.

BTW, if you are the manager, couldn't you lower the blaring music?  Also, umm...why don't you find another job?    ???

I've seen this Arcade Ambience mentioned several times but unfortunately skipped over it as I thought it was referring to the cassettes that some guy (when a kid) recorded at an arcade with his friends.

This looks like good stuff.  Thanks ahofle!!

Actually we are a brand new arcade. We just opened in June. Almost running a year now. Any arcade today has to do redemption. Nobody comes in just to play videos or pins anymore. My arcade has 50 games currently, roughly 50% redemption and 50% amusement. On the amusement end I have 3 pinballs, some various drivers, H2overdrive, guitar hero, pump it up, etc. As for the music volume, nothing I can do about that. thats all controled thru the DJ booth on the restaurant side and the owners like it loud, especially when they do a server dance (at least once an hour if not more). And I wouldn't want to find another job. I'm actually very happy working at the Corvette Diner and running our Gamers garage. Its actually a blast. I get paid to play with viedo games all day. Hell the company even flew me to vegas for the Amusement Expo in March. I have full choice and control over any new games we get, I set the entire arcade up myself. set up and installed all of our games, etc. And let me tell ya, our arcade is doing VERY well sales wise. Hell its hard to even move around in there on a Saturday night theres so many people. and its about 5,000 square feet.

edit: oh yeah, we dont have any paper tickets either. We're using the Sacoa debit card system. similar to Dave & Busters. but we use electronic ticketing. Any tickets won from the games get seent directly to the server and are tied to the card holders account number. Very cool stuff

Remember finding this long time ago when I came across the Arcade Ambience project..
has a pretty cool video you can d/l called  "Arcade '84"

a 3-minute+ trip through an imaginary arcade circa 1984 entirely rendered in 3D computer graphics. The arcade is filled with more than 30 unique games presented in their original cabinets and decorated with their original artwork and animated game graphics. Video games, laser disc games, pinball games, crane games and even change machines are all included. A video wall in the rear of the room displays actual clips of music videos from Van Halen, Michael Jackson, Blondie, Devo and more. Actual game sound effects can be heard from all corners of the room while Journey's "Stone in Love" is playing on the radio over the arcade's audio system. Across the hall from the arcade is a record store displaying popular album covers in the window and a movie theater is showing "The Empire Strikes Back" and the first popular movie to feature computer graphics, "Tron."

for those who didn't know   ;D

These machines will be the death of me

I came across the arcade Ambiance project quite some time ago. I suppose if I worked in an arcade, I wouldn't much care for it either, but, damn, those recording really took me back to junior high hanging out at wizards after school and blowing way too many quarters on asteriods and sinistar.

Hats off to ahofle!  :applaud:

Fantastic job

I really like the ambience sounds to run in the Menu's of Maximus Arcade. I have it on the box that is going into my cab.

Great work ahofle  :applaud:

Now if you could just go into a rough english pub and record about an hour of near silence followed by the sounds of a lone drunken man starting a fight, I can relive my 1st experience of playing Pang. . .
Hey Dudes thanks, for rescuing me, lets go for a burger.... HA! HA! HA! HA!

I think having them playing in the background is great. I go in with the intention of playing one game, then hear a few notes played in the background. "I totally forgot about that one" then switch over to a new one. Much better than scanning the menu.
