JAMMA Board Size
« on: May 10, 2010, 07:19:35 pm »
What are the dimensions of the bigger JAMMA boards?
I am thinking of building a "table top", (don't have a bar) JAMMA cab and was wondering how much space I need to leave for the board. I wanted to go as small as possible. I was thinking one joystick, 3 buttons, and a 13-15" LCD. Would 12" x 20" be big enough?

I was just wondering what the biggest boards are that you know of. The only one I have is Raiden and it's about 11.5x15. How does that compare to other JAMMA boards? What would be the size of an MK board for instance?

Some JAMMA games were larger (up to about 12x16") but some also used additional harnesses and 'daughter boards' ie. Street Fighter had a kick harness and some CPS systems were encased in their own 'shell', whilst Midway boards like the MK and NBA Jam series' had secondary daughter boards and games like Killer Instinct had a hard drive too.

Also worth mentioning - many of these xxx-in-1 boards are custom PC boards with JAMMA edge connectors, sometimes with an identical-sized secondary board attached via PCB riser feet. There were also some clone boards (I had a clone Golden Axe for example) that used twin boards like this so the bootleggers could replicate the game using a simpler track pattern and generic programmable chips.

NBA Jam and MK3 are pretty big, so is the CPS2 system..... I think all my JAMMA boards are pretty big except for Tekken 2 Ver.B  I'll measure NBA Jam and stuff when I get home

I am thinking I'd need to go at least 6 inches tall to accomodate Neo Geo (single slot) and xxx-in-1 boards.

I'm thinking I'd need to add a fan as well, since I'm sure most JAMMA boards were designed to be ventilated in a full sized cab.

Just estimating here, but I think the biggest I've seen could go up to about 14" x 20", and then stacked 3 boards tall (4")

NO MORE!!

That's about what I was thinking. Makes it kind of difficult to build a JAMMA Mini.
