Of Mice and MAME (or not!)
« on: May 05, 2010, 02:22:33 pm »
I am building my second cab and this time I have included both a spinner (turbo twist 2) and trackball (3" happ).  Both of them run fine in windows, but they don't seem to work in MAME.  I have changed my mame.ini to include 'mouse 1' and remember clicking something in the MALA (my FE) options, but no joy.  The tracball works in MALA, I'm not sure about the TT as I would need to swap the axis.  Any ideas on how to fix this or whatto look at?

Check multi-mouse option.  Check that you have assigned the trackball/spinner to controls in MAME.

Can you be more specific as to where each of these get set?  i.e. is multi-mouse in mame.ini?  As for assigning the track/spin to controls in MAME, do you mean that the MAME key settings?  If so, I think this is done by default, i.e. in tempest the controls for movement are shown as mouse X.  I've tried to reassign the key by spinning the spinner/track ball on the key assignment, but it does not record any keystrokes.

But yes the multi mouse option is in mame.ini.   Should be listed as "multimouse" I believe.  You need to set it to 1 to turn it on.

I would turn on multi mouse and then try to set the controls in MAME again and see if it then shows up as something like Mouse 1 X or etc...

The analog controls can be very difficult to set up directly in MAME.  For my light guns, I end up getting SOMETHING to show up in the in-game setup and then editing the .cfg file manually to get it right.  I haven't had too many problems with my racing cab (steering wheels) other than sensitivity settings.
