Double Toggle switch??
« on: May 05, 2010, 03:38:13 am »
I need a Button that can trigger two different controllers at once.  One if for an Ipac, the other for a 18 Volt solenoid.  Both need to go off at the same time.

I have seen some, but I have to order 1,000 of them at a time...  Anyone have anything that can work?  Or know where I can get something that will?

Does it have to be an arcade type pushbutton like we're used to?

Could you take a standard microswitch arcade button, but instead of mounting the microswitch on the little studs that stick out, drill them and use small bolts to mount two switches side by side, then epoxy something across the bottom of the actuator so they both trigger at once?
But wasn't it fun to think you won the lottery, just for a second there???

+1 on Ed's idea.

That or I was going to suggest using a Solid state relay or a an optoisolator. The button would then control one output AND the relay, the relay would control the other output, completely isolated from the first.

Mouser electronics is also a good place to pick up stuff like this.

You could also use a standard switch to trigger a DPDT Relay.

would you be able to simply put 2 switches? I mean, it would depend what poushbutton you have to hit the micro switch I guess, but that could be something to explore.

Have you tried APEM?
http://www.apem.com/

(likely in the snap action switches http://www.apem.com/snap.html )

try contacting them, they should know.

Ummm... Maybe a PNP?

Seems to be the cheapest solution. About 3 cents/2000 units. Plus another couple of pennies for the necessary resistors and diode. Probably no more than 6 cents per unit per 1000? Not sure if you need a heatsink though.

I'm just guessing. Not sure if such a circuit will work with the signal line levels of an Ipac.

Well, you've got options now.  Since the OP asked for a switch, I tried to keep it non-electronic, but if -I- were doing this for myself, I'd probably go with the DPDT relay.  Take a spare voltage source, send that through the switch, and use it to pull in the relay.

Unfortunately, this is one of those 'theres a thousand ways to do it' scenarios.
But wasn't it fun to think you won the lottery, just for a second there???

I just made one by gluing 2 together, then using a standard happ button as the button.  Its my main on/off for the arcade and i needed 2 buttons to be pushed at once basically.   You can see pictures here.  http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=95768.msg1020332#msg1020332

A dpst momentary switch will switch two contacts separately.

There are many types of "arcade" switches.  I bet you could even find something in a leaf variety that would work!

Hm, didn't think of leafs.  Stack two sets of leafs with the little insulator standoff thingy and you're golden.
