Street Fighter 2 Joysticks?
« on: May 03, 2010, 05:22:31 pm »
What kind of joysticks do Street Fighter 2 cabs use? What would be an accurate replacement for one? I currently have the Happ Ultimate 8-way sticks, and when I run Street Fighter 2 in MAME, it is really difficult to execute a dragon punch. Just doesn't feel as fluid as a real SF2 arcade machine. My character will actually jump when I am trying to transition from forward to down. Thanks!

Would the supers feel smoother than the ultimates? The ultimates feel a little clicky.

I believe you are looking for the iL 8 way Eurojoystick.  iL use to make this stick for HAPP back in the day.

SF2 use first ver. WICO Conical Joystick this stick have soft spring and square actuator but W/O floating very, very hard to find I have only one. And this stick use firts US cab MVS

next SF2 ver (and MK1) use WICO Conical with improved actuator (floating) but spring is hard. and this stick is too very hard to find on auction

SSF2T use only Ultimate

and sometimes OEM SF2 cabs use Coin Control stick

These days the most popular and generally agreed upon best joystick for SF2 is the Il competition stick.

Back in the day of arcades, you never knew what you were going to find on a cab, since they were conversions.  Ultimates may have been official on something like the CE cab, but you hardly ever saw them since the cabs with Supers in them were much preferred by players, and Operators quickly realized this and switched them out.  And once the Il comp sticks caught on those became the de facto SF2 stick in any serious arcade.

Of course, now we have all abandoned those sticks for the most part, and everyone uses Sanwa and Seimitsu stuff, but I don't think those would look very good on your cab.

Yeah, I was just pointing out that a lot of people might not have even played on a proper dedicated cab.

Yes there was a factory version which Capcom licensed one company to do their dedicated Champion Edition in.  Here are pictures of it:

Another original CE cab is the big blue one

All others are just generic dynamo HS series cabs with kits.

oh my gosh, it looks like someone converted a narc to SF.
Thats a real shame, Narc is one of my favorite games, i still find the graphic violence of blowing a drug dealer up with a rocket to hold up even todays.

Street Fighter II would be a blast with 2-way Joust joysticks.
