Need some feedback about a design
« on: May 02, 2010, 05:08:05 pm »
OK, so I've built a cab recently, and now I'm working on the art for it.  Now... before I start getting flamed and trolled for not using an "Arcade" theme, and more of a "console" theme, let me explain.  I flat out love The Legend of Zelda.  I'm not saying I want people to think that this is a Zelda game only cab.  But I've put a lot of thought into this.  This is something that's mine, that's a part of me.  And out of all the games I've played over my life time, I have always loved Zelda.  Don't get me wrong, this is a MAME cab with other emulators as well.  But for appearance sake, I thought I should design it with art from a game I have a lot of nostalgia for.  So with that said!

I recently made a marquee which I installed and I'm pleased with out it turned out, back-lit and all.  I'm going to post both the marquee and the bezel so you can get a feel for what I'm going for.  For the bezel I wanted a simple, but workable design.  My control panel, which I'm making art for as well, is a 4 player lay out.  So that will explain the different colored "Links", similar to Four Swords, except I have a Blue, Red, Yellow, and Purple Link to match the color of the controls.  No Green Link except for on the marquee.  The control panel art I'm still working on, but I took a break from it so I could get the bezel made first  :) Anyhow,  Here's my stuff!  Not making any changes to the marquee since it's printed and installed, but the bezel is a work in progress so any feed back is welcomed  :)

Also, I am planning on making a custom template for a frontend like MA that will be following this design as well, so just so you know, I'm designing this as a whole piece, not just to have Link on my cab  :P

Looks good to me. Mine is based on all the scifi ships from shows such as Star Trek, Babylon 5, Star Wars (movies) and such. So not at all arcade related. I find that cabs with unique art are much more a reflection of your personality. So good job on your stuff. Keep it up.

I'm also creating a layout for my GameEx FE. It makes a big diff to tie everything under one theme.

Cheers
