Revamping my current cab, advise....

Hi,
I am still relatively new to all this (as you will see from the pics of my cab).
I got an electrocoin xenon for free from a mate about 2 years ago now.
I had it up and running with a mame setup in about a month but have never been happy with the finished product.
The main things that bother me about it are:

1. The current control panel is metal and very difficult to get a smooth finish etc.
Basically what I want is two player setup 6 buttons, player 1 and 2 and escape and exit.
I also want a CPO on it and finally some plexi.
I got a mate to redo it with a wooden panel laid over the metal but it didnt work out and I removed it.

2. The 2 doors at the bottom (no coin slots as they are above the control panel to the left and right) are metal and need to be sanded and repainted.

3. I need to redo the t molding, am thinking of red (as I am going to paint the cab black again)

4. The glass has some stickers on it which I want to remove?

Bottom line is I want to sand the metal down, repaint it, sand the wood down repaint it and get a new control panel .
The control panel has a piano hinge on it so I can access it easily , do I leave this here?
Any ideas/ Suggestions welcome
I havent a clue as to what primer and paint to use, spray or from a can, I read somewhere that latex paint is pretty good.
Do I need different paint for the wood and the metal

Spray paint will give you a much more even, professional-looking finish. I'd read the can first to be sure, but the spray paints I've used are suitable for both wood and metal. For sticker removal, Goof-Off works pretty well. I'm not sure if that's just a Canadian product, though.

For working with Glass, I'd recommend methyl hydrate (aka wood alcohol). It'll take anything off glass...works amazingly.



1. What do you mean, hard to get a smooth finish?  Like, surface smoothness?  You can get a wire-wheel and attach it to a drill to scratch off any surface deviations, then prime and paint it and you should be ok.  More information is needed here on what you're talking about.

2. Again, wire-wheel and drill. Works wonders.

3. Go for it.

I have a carpenter re-doing the panel in wood so thats the smooth surface sorted.
I think I will go with the spray paint as advised.
Methyl hydrate it is then..
