Samurai Shodown II was the best, much like Mortal Kombat II was the best MK

not huge on fighting games but i always liked Time Killers.  I know it was a ---steaming pile of meadow muffin---, but cutting someones head off with a chainsaw was a guilty pleasure....    :lol

Looks like from the teaser atleast it could be in the same visual style as TvC but thats just my thoughts based off what I see from this.

I always wanted to finish Karateka, Yosagi Yogimbo and Bruce Lee (C=64).

Ah, Bruce Lee. Had it on my Atari 800xl. Brilliant game, used to play it with my dad.

What was the green lads name again? Was it Yamo or something??

Best balanced character line up. It really built up off of the previous Samurai Shodown without changing too much. SS3 started to get hokey and 4 and up just full on weird, SS1 and SS2 stayed kinda grounded in reality.

Some of those fatalities and stage fatalities are pretty good (considering its age). The game looks familiar but I cant remember playing it.

Don't get me started on the fact that I don't consider the Smash Bros. games to be fighters.  They're more like beat-em ups- and Brawl with its campaign mode cinches that fact. :soapbox:

Campaign mode is just that.  A different mode, so that argument cinches nothing.  It doesn't disqualify the game from consideration when discussing 1v1 fighters.  And I don't believe I'm biased, either.  I love mvsc/mvsc2, as well as the SF Alphas, and numerous others.   High level play in Smash involves just as much speed, skill, technique, and mind games as any other fighting game.  I dare say the Melee installment was one of the most frenetically paced fighters made.
I'll exercise patience when you stop exercising stupidity.

Smash Bros doesn't feel like a 1 on 1 fighter, I can't articulate why exactly.. maybe because you could roam around the world.  Fighters don't usually do this or because the moves usually only involved pushing a button in combination with a direction. Is powerstone and ps2 a fighting game? a 1 on 1 fighter ?

Smash Bros is a Beat 'em up fighter in my eyes. Not the same thing. If that's a 1 on 1 fighter, then so is Bushido Blade.

Agreed - well, best fighting game anyway ;)

Everyone seems to prefer MK2 (once had a friend jokingly tell me we probably shouldn't be friends anymore if I don't think MK2 is the best Mortal Kombat!), but I've always prefered the speed and game play mechanics of MK3/UMK3. Miss Johnny Cage, Baraka, and Raiden though.

Other than that, I love KI 1 and 2, SFII series, SFIII, and to lesser extents SFA, SFEX, Tekken, and Virtua Fighter series. Never really got into any others - most of the others I've played are just laughably bad or cheap clones of one of the aforementioned games - but my interest in seriously tackling new games really dropped off from the late '90s onward, so I may have missed out on some stuff I would've liked, I dunno.

Super Mario War is more fun anyhow :)
