A possibly convenient source for LEDs.
« on: April 09, 2010, 11:24:37 am »
The other day I thought to add LEDs to my control panel. It occurred to me that I have a number of LED Christmas light strings. So I began taking them out of their holders. Lo and behold, 12 LEDs with resistors already in place. I thought it was great. Most of my electronics come from salvage. I know it's probably better to just buy them online, but if you happen to have some Phillips LED Christmas lights (or any others most likely) then look no further.

I wasn't sure where to post this, so please let me know if there is a better place.

eBAY  it takes a couple weeks, but I got 200 white and 100 blue LEDs with Resistors from China direct for 7 dollars AFTER shipping.  It was amazing.

You can get them crazy cheap on ebay. I have bought a few packs of LEDs that equate to £0.01 each inc resistors. Have a search Ginsu ;)

My thought was if I searched ebay, it would come up with a million different Chinese results. I was hoping for the one he used since you never know which ones you can trust.

I've always just picked the cheapest and not had any problems as yet.

The quality/lifespan 'may' be questionable but they will probably last longer than I will want them too. Worst case scenario I replace it with another £0.01 LED.

I bought some pre-wire LEDs from this chinese source on eBay http://stores.ebay.com/eylane

They come with resistors already built in; just connect the leads to a power source (molex from a PC power supply) and you are good to go.

I guess mine worked out to be almost a dollar each. Not exactly saving money. But, I bought them two years ago. They can live a new life now.

I wasnt coming in to be a smartass, but you leftit wide open...  It was a long time ago, I bought so many that I would never need to buy any again.  I probably have about 60 blues left and a 120 whites left.  I remember going to Radiodshack to grabe 5 LEDs and they wanted 4 each so....  I bout 300 for 7...  Just remember to be patient, when your order is placed it can take upto a month to get them in the US when you order from CHINA.
