Hello!

I found this site and already I'm in love with it! I was looking for a forum dedicated to actually BUILDING and RESTORING arcades so I'm glad I found this

I am looking to buy a "Hook" arcade cabinet which is in fine working order except that it needs a power supply. So my question is, what power supply would definilty work on a Hook upright?? The game was made my 'Irem' and released in 1992.

Link to Hook on KLOV:

I asked a very reputable arcade dealer near me, and here is a link to a power supply that he has that he thinks SHOULD work, but wasn't completely sure without seeing the game in person:

Can anyone help?!

Thanks!!!!

Wow, Hook.  Rare game. (Don't mention that to the seller!) That was one of the last games put out by Irem before they closed up their California office (I think?!)

It's a JAMMA standard game so yes that power supply will do. $35 is average price for a switching power supply.

Only remaining questions you SHOULD be asking us is about price. We wouldn't want to see you get gouged.

awesome, thanks man!!

im getting the Hook cabinet totally dedicated with everything orignal (except MAYBE sideart) for $150!!!  ;D

youre right, Hook cabinets are really rare from what I've found, I've seen a few pics of them before but now I cant even find another picture of one anywhere on the internet- the overlay, marquee and bezel are all there, but I'm not quite sure about the sideart- it looks like it might be a generic side art

but I dont know because its hard to find a picture of any of these cabinets!!!!!
it looks like it might be one of those "Winners Don't Do Drugs" things that played before a lot of the early 90's arcades!  :lol

If anyone knows or finds one and could post it that would be incredible

Thank you so much again!! :applaud:

That's a photo of a conversion cabinet.  Looks to be a Williams cab.  Can't tell which one from that shot.

That's totally a Robotron cabinet!  I'd spot one anywhere!

oh man- looked it up..i guess it is!

but Hook is a 4 player game anyway, so I assume there HAD to be official 4 player cabinets out there somewhere (still cant find any evidence of one though)  :banghead:

------

I have the idea to convert this cabinet to a 3 or 4 player.. would it be as simple as just MODing the overlay to house 3 joysticks and button configurations, then just wiring them to the board and switching the dip switches to 3/4 players?

the game is up to 4 players, so as long as I have the correct number of joysticks wired up to the board and the dips are set, thats all that I'd need to do, right??

You wouldn't want four players on that cab - way too narrow.  Heck, two is pushing it.  It was a cabinet based on one person standing in front of it.

You could move the kit over to a four player cab.  There are plenty of them around.   You'd have to come up with new graphics, but the ones on that cab are pretty generic anyway.

Also: make sure that this board supports four players.   I don't know if there are two and four player versions of the board.

I think Hook was just an upgrade kit, so arcade ops would install them in any given cabinet they could. I highly doubt there is an "official" cabinet.

I'm with SirPeale on this one, this cabinet is good for a single player layout only...you'd probably have to do a lot of work to get this to turn out the way you want, and even then it will probably not be too comfortable.

If i were you, I'd gut this cab and grab all the Hook parts, then trade this cabinet for a more suitable 4-player cabinet. I'm sure you'd be able to find someone looking for a Robotron cabinet to restore or turn into a multi-williams. My El Diablo Mechanico machine (in my sig) is an example of a decent 4-player machine.  They're pretty generic, so you shouldn't have a hard time finding one.

Thank you so much for all your help!  :lol

Now my next question is: Could anyone help me with instructions on how to install a power supply??

Is there a site/list of kind of general steps on what to do to install?

The seller of the Hook cab told me that it is about 10 wires to hook it up- but I know NOTHING about any of this :dunno

is it a pretty simple process? (i hope  ;D )

Just use your EYES. The thing likely has the faulty power supply in there. Just copy the same wire hookups.
