Is there any problem
« on: March 26, 2010, 11:50:45 am »
with converting a Street Fighter II Champion Edition to mame? My feeling is no but I wanted to double check.

Thanks!

  • Yeah, owning a MAME cab only leads to owning real ones. MAME just isn't good enough. It's a gateway drug.

It's just a generic cabinet. Do it.

depending on what kind of controls you are looking for, you may want to opt for something with a larger control panel....that one is a bit small.

It's a 2 player 6 button layout with p1 and p2 start buttons.  That's a lot of controls for some people.

Control panel looks fine to me. Not every cabinet should have to ask for clearance before landing.

JPAC eliminates the need for the ArcadeVGA, or so I thought.

Nope.

Even with a JPac you still need to drive the monitor at the appropriate frequency -- ArcadeVGA or soft15Khz still required.

Oh, ok. I thought JPAC handled that, guess I was wrong.

Edit: I just went and read up on it and I see where I had it wrong.

Wow, the side profile of that cab is crazy.  Look how far out the marquee extends!

I'm hoping to pick it up this afternoon. I'm a fan of less controls, I want other people to play and not be confused about what they're supposed to be using. 2 players, a few buttons sounds about right... although I might extend the control panel just enough to add that trackball. And I noticed the marquee too, I wonder how hard it would be to cut back without jacking it up.

He said the monitor flickers and dies a couple minutes after booting it up. I was going to try and fix it, but now I'm leaning towards saving myself the time and dollars and just putting my old tv in there. Has anyone had success with that, what are the downsides?

being a fan of less controls, if your not looking for trackball it should do then, as far as the marquee goes, it's probably more of the angle of the photo was taken at then it actually sticking out.... although they used to have them stick out to help shield the monitor glass from overhead lights.... if you want to chop it back, you'll have to find a new home for the speakers since they are under the awning.  :lol

sounds like a bad solder joint someplace...it could take minutes to fix.

chopping a tv into the cab...hours if not days of work.

If you do end up replacing the monitor I recommend a 19" pc monitor in place of a TV.
